Hollandia is $29.99, Bavaria $36.99 at Coles. Amsterdamer is $31.99 at Wollies, the other depend on the outlet but dont expect to pay more than $40. Thats what

P.S. I like my slaps

Rumour has it that the Carlton & United Brewery Manager was told by his doctor to reduce his beer consumption to one stubby a day for the sake of his liver. So he had his factory make a 2 litre stubby!

Not saying this tastes any good... but 2 litres will certainly extinguish a thirst!

            Hi Guys,
My favourite brew is REDBACK by Matilda Bay brewing WA I used to know the bloke that started it in his pub at Freo but it's now a big commercial operation on the Canning Highway that's progress I suppose.
Redback is definitely a steak sanga in every long neck but a bit exy in price.

That's funny. Since Lion Nathan bought out Boags end of last year they have distributed the manufacturing for local consumption meaning Lofty that the Boags that you buy here in Adelaide is made here in Adelaide down at the the West End Brewery. The malt that used to be made for it was manufactured in Devonport and then trucked across to Launceton where as now the malt comes out of either the Port Adelaide or Cavan plants. So basically it cheaper to make and distribute locally while reaping in huge profits.

Nice drop. I think Coca Cola bought them out during the year. The malt for this comes out of Tamworth.

                          Re: Favourite beer

Gosh - where to start. For the record I put down Crown because it's a class drop. I grew up in England and spent more than my fair share in Holland and Belgium so I guess I've got a different perspective on beer - I'm not real parochial about it - I think beer's a bit like wine in that sometimes you're in the mood for one of these and sometimes one of those.

I used to drink a bit of 'real ale' - yes, that non-fizzy only slightly cold beer. I lived for a year in digs at college at an old country pub that had Marston's Pedigree on tap and some pretty good guest beers - one cheeky little number I remember was called 'Skullcrusher' - a murky and strong beer with more than a little character

                          My favourites were:

London Pride from the White Cross Hotel at Richmond - when a summer high tide came up you couldn't leave the pub due to the water...that was just hell as you can imagine...
Spitfire from the Shepherd Neame brewery (regional brewer - brewing since 1698)

I've also been a fan of lagers like:

Peroni ("when in Rome"...reminds me of lazy summer afternoons before kids )
Asahi (great clean tasting beer which does actually taste great icy cold)
Coopers Sparkling (in fact anything by Coopers is a class act)
Blue Tongue (been drinking this in the Qantas lounge - it's nice stuff...)
                          James Squire Amber
                          James Boags

And I love a good cold Guinness - especially if I missed lunch...it's a meal in a glass Check out the chocolate stout at Redoak too.

...and I'm a big big fan of Belgian beers - specifically Duvel (sheesh that'sh shome strong beer), Hoegaarden, Leffe Brun. And I like the strong taste of the other Dutch beer that was left out of the list...Oranjeboom (used to get it on tap at De Hems wine bar in Soho).

I think that's got it covered. Like I say, horses for courses but sit me in a Belgian beer bar in front of a pork schnitzel the size of a manta ray and a choice of beers off the menu with someone elses card behind the bar and I'm happy as...

Big fan of Montieths and Macs.
Bit hard to get hold of in tassie sometimes so have to fall back on the Boags Premies.
Saw 4 packs of Hoegaarden in NZ for $9.70 AU!!!

The things you learn hey?.......thanks for that. Are they still brewing the product in Tas for local consumption?

Have heard of a new brew coming on the market from my old home town of Burra. Not brewed there, but i think they plan to store it there in the old Unicorn Brewery underground cellars, aprox 600m of which still exist. Great tourist spot if you are going through that way, especially if you have kids.
