    Re: Favourite beer

Mmmm, Corona. I'm a big fan of that newish beer, Miller Chill. Something about the lime and salt in it that makes it great to drink on a stinking hot day.... or any day for that matter.

    Cheers,
    AJ

      Re: Favourite beer

I voted for another tosser beer My favourite is James Squire Original Pale Ale...mmm.....

At a German restaurant the other night, we sampled a few...welll probably a few too many...German beers. The Spaten Premium was lovely, as was the Maisel Weisse.

          Re: Favourite beer

Lemon Myrtle sounds interesting - should be nice and refreshing on a hot day.

I forgot another great beer - Trumer Pils - an Austrian pilsener - introduced to it by the guy at my local bottlo who had them on special and really rated them. I just found this entry in Wikipedia on it : "In April, 2008 Trumer Pils won the Gold medal at the World Beer Cup for Best German-style pilsner. An extraordinary accomplishment for Trumer Pils following the Gold medal win at the last World Beer Cup competition in 2006. Winners were selected by an international panel of 129 beer experts from 22 countries judging an impressive field of 2,930 entries from 646 breweries in 58 countries. The World Beer Cup competition is a bi-annual event sponsored by the Brewers Association." ... gee...that's gotta be a hard job eh - what boss ? you need me to go back again today and sample another 500 beers ?

That's funny. Since Lion Nathan bought out Boags end of last year they have distributed the manufacturing for local consumption meaning Lofty that the Boags that you buy here in Adelaide is made here in Adelaide down at the the West End Brewery. The malt that used to be made for it was manufactured in Devonport and then trucked across to Launceton where as now the malt comes out of either the Port Adelaide or Cavan plants. So basically it cheaper to make and distribute locally while reaping in huge profits.
The things you learn hey?.......thanks for that. Are they still brewing the product in Tas for local consumption?

Have heard of a new brew coming on the market from my old home town of Burra. Not brewed there, but i think they plan to store it there in the old Unicorn Brewery underground cellars, aprox 600m of which still exist. Great tourist spot if you are going through that way, especially if you have kids.
Yep, they brew down south for the locals but they also only brew the specialties down there as that is the home of Boags.

                    Re: Favourite beer

Tried one of the Lemon Myrtle wheatbeers from Baron's over Christmas...nice taste - was hoping for something a bit less subtle though...but overall I just found it too gassy.

Tried a Hobgoblin from our local Dan McMurphys (they've got a great selection of beers , not cheap by the bottle but very nice indeed - can see why it made an impression Mick. A nice fruity beer with a satisfying bitterness and great chilled from the bottle...must be pretty good on draught.

Had an "Old Speckled Hen" last night (very nice but why such a small bottle ?

Also bought up some asahi as my drink while cooking (usually at the BBQ) beer but at $19 for six it's a bit pricey.

very fond of abbots ale if you can find it on tap but the main staples would have to be carlton draught and hahn superdry .

I don't know how VB got on the list. You are all aware that the guys at CUB just duck out the back door and fill the stubbies straight from the Yarra? Moo Brew from Tassie make a Hefeweizen to die for, or anything from the Grand ridge Brewery in Mirboo North.
