Hi all
I'm new here, and to Prado... I owned an awesome Subaru Outback 2.5 for three years some years ago, a couple of (E36) 3 series Beemers and other small cars... so the Prado is my first "big" car...
My family and I just returned home from a 3800km two week trip to Cape Town and surrounds (I live in Pretoria, in South Africa) ... we got the 7 year old series 120 a week before the trip (2003 "VX", 4 litre V6, auto, 147000km).
So for interest sake (my own, really) the trip details follow: (all travelling was on excellent tarred roads, cruise control at 120km/h except where traffic / legal speeds didn't allow or the odd overtaking).
From home to destination: 1450km, avg consumption 12.1 l/100km, avg speed 102km/h
Riding around in the Cape Town area (mixed 50% urban and 50% open road) : 900km, avg 14.3 l/100km, avg speed 59km/h
Back home from Cape Town: 1450km, avg consumption 12.3 l/100km (it's a 1700m climb back home), avg speed 100km/h.
No trailer, nothing on the roof, two adults, two kids, boot reasonably full (more so coming back with 36 bottles of red wine...)
I am very happy with the consumption. Next trip will probably see the bush-trailer in tow, lots of dirt roads (probably some deep sand), so I'm expecting figures around 20 l/100km. Ouch.
I do have some technicaly questions, but I'm sure this is the place where I can find answers...
Regards,
Donald Klopper
