Whats your best excuse 2 gain SWMBOs approval 4 Prado mods?

With so many PPers saying their Prado is actually their SWMBOs car or daily driver - I was wondering what is the strangest or funniest excuse you have ever given just to convince SWMBO that your next planned mod is actually needed, an essential bit of kit, rather than just another one of the Boys Toys you would like to have???

Only thing that comes to my mind right now is to do with my "new" 120 I just bought a couple months back as an upgrade to the 90 we had for over 10 years. The 90 had a bullbar but SWMBO never liked it, said "they look ugly". So for the new 120 I showed her some pics of a variety of bullbars with same response so tried to steer her around to a nudge bar, but no luck , just a question of "why do you want to make your beautiful car so ugly with something like that" HMMM :x

So with Christmas rapidly approaching I mentioned how we would be driving with 2 other cars (brothers and their families) over our holidays and how we normally spoke to each other via UHF. So I used the excuse I needed somewhere to mount the aerial and also the spotties (another non required accessory SWMBO said!!). She said to use the hand helds but I kind of exaggerated their uselessness for our situation, and that the spotties would stop us hitting Skippy which would wreck our holiday because she likes to leave home in the wee hours of the morning that we head off for the holidays; and that I just found a local chap selling his old nudge bar cheap

So in the end SWMBO relented and on the nudge bar went, together with spotties and aerial pre-holidays So now the 120 is getting all warmed up ready for the day "I just stumbled across this bargain too good to resist" when a bullbar will be fitted :wink: Maybe it will have something to do with needing a winch to save our lives somewhere she likes to travel, hmmm - thinking thinking..... Oh, forgot to mention the guy I bought the nudge bar from, he had same issue with his SWMBO until she finally relented and let him buy a new ARB bar for "her car". Must have been why he was feeling so happy when I turned up, because he even fitted the nudge bar for me, causing me to be very late for a special dinner SWMBO had planned for my birthday which just happened to be that same day ops:

Aim for a kangaroo - narrowly miss one, and make her spill drink/food on herself "if we had a bullbar, that wouldn't happen"
lift kit & tyres - get bogged. "If the car was a little higher, or had better tyres this wouldn't of happened"

tried that - still got bogged... - "we need a bigger lift, better (flat) bash plates, not the toyota mud scoops"
extra 12v sockets - kids fighting in back, "if we had extra ones the DSi's would be charged and they would have something to do"

Whats your best excuse 2 gain SWMBOs approval 4 Prado mods?

Get really bogged, one of my mates got stuck with his wife for nearly 48 hours soon after that he had lockers and a winch fitted

I am not sure it was the bogged part or stuck together for 48 full hours that did it

I did things differently just did it and faced up to it later as I told her my plans from the start so I did not get in too much trouble

Simple just get a divorce after all the mods are done . If she dont like the mods she wont take the Prado

:lol: yep that's what I did, although it wasn't her daily driver. No more control freak for me I'm happy to say 8)

But if you need an "EXCUSE" to gain "SWMBOs approval 4 Prado mods" then seriously, your relationship with her better be worth it!

I remember (well actually I am constantly reminded) of a day, back when my daily driver was a Datsun 1600. I wanted extractors, I told SWMBO the exhaust manifold was warped and needed to be replaced, came home with extractors and a 2" exhaust... Never heard the end of THAT one.... :roll:

i am lucky she loves her mazda sp23 so much - thats her baby. In the end spending on the prado comes down to money and do we need to spend it i guess. For my next puchase maybe i should say its just like i am buying another pair of new pair of shoes for the prado, you cant have too many shoes hey girls :lol:

I just got my wife a 150 SX, I have a fully modded 200 (Lifted, Locked, bar, winch etc) now she wants hers done so it can keep up.......problem solved

I was hoping to hear what others have had to say as their excuses for their mod for when swmbo has turned her nose up at the thought of some shiny new bit you consider essential and she just thinks is a boys toy and the money could be better spent elsewhere. Surely somone has laid on a bit of "BS" to get her nod of approval....

Lets see!

Bullbar, need to be able to see were the front of the car is and safety for those 600klm trips to your parents.
UHF and spotlights, see above.
Lift, need more clearance for our trip to Fraser with your parents. Will help us not get bogged. But if we do we need some "maxtrax's" as cheap insurance.
Snorkel, will help with fuel economy and protects the motor from any damage.
Cargo barrier, safety so the kids don't get hit in the back of the head with something.
Fridge, sell explanitory, food for u and the kids.
Dual battery, need that to charge her camera gear whilst working on a job.

Thats most of the big stuff, little mods don't tell her?

Safety reasons can always secure that much needed mod.
