Hi All
I am planning to do the Dirty Weekends Tour 16 (Page 222, 5th Edition) on Saturday March 19th 2011. Those interested to come along please let me know.
It will be an early start at Beaudesert, 7am meeting for a 7.30am Start. Information below.
Date - POSTPONED - New Date TBA
Meeting Place - Beaudesert McDonalds
Time - 7am meeting for a 7.30am start.
Lunch - BYO, Lunch will be at Queen Mary Falls Picnic Area. There is a Kiosk and caravan park there. I will be taking along my Webber Q for a BBQ.
Trip rating - Easy to moderate, there is 14 river crossings but most are OK, there are a few deep ones that may require low range.
Special Notes - If it rains or is going to rain on the day this may be canceled due to track conditions, so cross your fingers.
What to bring... Your 4WD, Camera, GPS if your keen to find a Geocache along the way, Lunch, Drinks, Sunscreen, Hat and your sense of adventure.
UHF - Yes, channel 18.
This will be a long day and it will finish at Boonah, you can either go home via Boonah and along the Cunningham Highway or Rathdowney to Beaudesert and the Mount Lindsay Highway.
Trip Highlights... This is the Condamine River run, there is around 14 river crossings that we will go through as well as see Mt Maroon, Queen Mary Falls, Teviot Lookout, Browns Falls Picnic Area and many more.
Fozzy also provided this info from 4X4 Earth. "Since the heavy rains in SEQ the Condamine Gorge (The Head) has changed from a good trip in a soft roader trip to needing good 4x4. The water has moved large rocks around in the river which will need to be walked on many of the crossings. Charging into the river will cause damage as one RAV4 found out by cracking its fuel tank. It requires low range and steady as it goes. The orginal road in many placed is rough and some parts have new tracks around blockages. This track needs recovery vehicles especially in some of the river crossings as large rocks can cause you to get hung up. The water level is deep in some places and water bra or snorkel is advised." Don't know about you but that just makes me want to go more!
