Bindaree hut is a great spot. Plenty of campsites and right next to the Howqua river and plenty of other attractions around.
Some great 4wd tracks close by and not too far from other huts.
Was there a few weeks ago and cant wait to get back there.

The Jayco made it in easy so the all terrain will shoe it in

We;ll be in at King River Hut ( building it ) so drop in and say hi ...you can even give us a hand if you want.

Also just do a check on track closures before you go ... I think there will still be a lot closed at Easter.
          Cheers, Wayne

I am heading in that direction as well. I am taking my two youngest boys on a "man trip" from zig zag railway (Blue Mountains NSW) to melbourne via dirt roads and tracks only.
We had intenended to get to Vic high country at Easter, but I am seriously considering heading off a week or so later, and keeping the boys out of school for a time after the hols, just to avoid the crouds.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

Re: Vic High Country Easter 2011

We'll be heading there next monday for an overnight stay whilst on our way to Tassie.
The wife wants to visit Craig's Hut ( as she loves The Man From Snowy River movie)
We'll probably look to camp at Sheepyard Flat but what I would like is some idea as to how long it would take to get to Craigs Hut from there, then back to Mansfield to continue our journey.
                Thanks in advance.

                    Peter,

It would be a leisurely day trip (could be half day, depending on the roads you take) from Sheepyard Flat to Craig's Hut and back.
You might want also drop by Mount Buller Alpine villarge while there - the views from the top are quite spectacular as well.
Sheepyard Flat to Mansfield is about an hour drive.

Couple of days to go now, camper just needs food and clothes to go.My baby is ready to go fully serviced, 5 brand new cooper st's and safari snorkel ,misses just told me I could get a Steinbauer Chip fitted, but that's going to have to wait till I get back, not enough time now.I don't know if we'll be able to get to Binderee Hut in one day from Khancoban, but we'll try our hardest if not, we'll camp somewhere on the way in.There looks to be a lot of camping places on the river. Thanks for the advice and I'll take it with me .

Have just done Davies Plain Track with an overnight camp at Charlie Creek (bloody cold). The tracks were fairly dry, the few creek crossings were in pretty good order. The only trap to watch out for that I found was a rather large hole crossing the Murry River (on the south side of the river) at Tom Groggin. It is nothing to worry about, but I didn't see it originally and when the nose of the Prado took an unexpected dive in the river you start expecting the worse.

                              Gavin.
