          • Well guys, talking to some blokes on another forum that went down the Border track last weekend, one of the guys with a Triton pulled his trailer over the first big dune no worries. He had 3 attempts at the second dune but couldn't make it.

Can't wait to go back with the CT and try for myself.

            Cheers Andrew

            • I read on another forum (http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/vi...029cf39d50349f) where the chassis of a Triton bent when he was pulling a twin motor bike trailer over a dune. Even though the trailer was well under the towing capacity of the towbar, unfortunately, the angle of the trailer relative to the triton, when cresting the dune, caused more load than the chassis could handle. I didn't read the whole thing but it is something to look out for if the camper trailer gets too far away from horizontal.

              • Wasn't on the trip but the 4wd club I'm in did the trip a few years back. I beliueve there was a 100 series that struggled to get over the two hills with a CT. I believe they made the first and had many goes at the second and refused a snatch. Not 100% sure of the final outcome but they did eventually get over altough I believe there was assistance required and a LOT of damage to the track.

                • Like every challenge, you need to use some common sense. I don't need to go and cut the track to pieces, just interested to see whether it could be done or not. If I can't get over in a couple of tries then the bypass is always an option. A guy told me a while ago that those dunes are as challenging as anything on the Canning or the Simpson including big red. Now I am not sure how accurate that statement is, but if I could conquer the Border track dunes, then the simmo with a trailer starts to look a lot more feasable.

It's all really about adding to my experience level.

                  Cheers Andrew

                  • AJ120 has the date been set yet? Wanted to go on the last trip but SWMBO booked me in for a 50th. Then to Coffins for this W/E instead of Bendleby.

no dates set yet, August was the suggestion, I put forward the dates I am available in post #247. I think we just need to find out when Ian is available as he really wants the practice towing a trailer off road. Ian and Rob are at Bendlyby this weekend so might put the pressure on for a date in the next week or so. If you have any specific dates that suit you in August put them forward, obviously its a fair hike for you coming from Lincoln.

                      Cheers Andrew

                      • I fly home from work on the 21/7, the last w/e in july would be great for me don't know if thats possible. Have to take SWMBO n twin lids to snow around the 13/8 for a week and SWMBO doesn't want them out of school toooo long (who cares). Not stressed if it doesn't fit I reckon I might do a quick Goog's track trip for a week by myself. Hmmm the peace n quite.
