Perth to Kimberley - June 20-Aug 1, 2011

Howdy All

Just throwing it out there that I will be heading back to the Kimberley (and possibly the NT) during the period of June 20 to August 1 later this year.

As ther is only myself and the Mrs travelling in one car this time I'd be keen to know whether any others are heading up that way and would be keen to catch up / travel in convoy for some of the more remote stuff.

If you're reading this and feel like givin gsome suggestions then I'm all ears.

So far the plan is:
- Head out of Perth on June 20 to Hamelin Pool stay overnight;
- Hamelin Pool to Coral bay stay for two nights;
- Coral Bay to Exmouth (Yardie Creek) and stay for three nights;
- Exmouth to Karijini National Park stay for 3-4 nights;
- Karijini to 80 mile Beach stay overnight;
- 80 Mile Beach to Broome - stay 2-3 nights;
- Broome to Kununurra via the Gibb (West to East) visiting the Gorges / Stations and hopefully the Mitchell Falls along the way (1.5-2 weeks);
- Once at Kununurra recharge the batteries for a few days and decide where to next...

Would really like to head to Kakadu as I missed it last trip...I've heard/seen its awesome after the wet. Keen on everyones thoughts as it may change the Broome to Kununurra leg as I'll belt down the Hwy instead of the Gibb to get there earlier and then do the Gibb on the way home.

After living in Darwin for 7 years mate, Kakadu is spectacular after the wet, but around August heading towards the end of the dry season, but their should still be alot of water around. Cyclone Rachael turned Kakadu into one big lake hahaha when I was there last in 97-8 from memory when it hit. Shit, If my mrs was not going to England around the same time, we would of loved to join you mate. Enjoy! 8)

I'm doing a similar trip at the same time but starting on the NT side of the border. Leaving Katherine on 18 June and back there the last weekend of July.
That is unless I decide that I love it that much that I decide to not go back to work!!
I'm doing the Gibb River Rd on the way out West, as long as the Pentecost River crossing is passable.
On the way back, I'll be coming back on the highway.

Might cross paths with you somewhere at some stage.

I was planning to do this with a mate this year also.!! Unfortunately he can't make it this year now and I had pretty much given up on the idea of going this year. Will have to give it some more thought.

Sounds like a top trip. You'll have to meet some crew here in th West as you pass through.

I'll be leaving Mt Isa around July 18. Heading to Exmouth for early Sept - exact route may be dependant on track conditions at the time - Would like to head north from the Isa to Hells gate via Lawn Hill then west to Kunnunurra and across the Gibb River rd.

Hi Jase

After Karijini, head up Gt Northern H'way and turn right on Woodstock-Marble Bar Rd. After Marble Bar, head up Marble Bar Rd and turn right towards Shay Gap and the Boreline Rd to Gt Northern H'way. I think you'd end up 50kms east of Pardoo RH. This is a much more interesting run than the h'way and you might even see the marble bar.
