  • Anne Beadell Hwy, Connie Sue Hwy and Surveyors General Corner - 2011

Following a successful Simpson crossing last year (except forthe journey home which is another sad story) planning for our 2011 midyear trip is now well underway and I thought I would share the planning and the trip with the forum!

This year we will be travelling from Adelaide to Nullarbor (Head of the Bight) to check out the whales, then up to Cook, on to Vokes Hill Corner then along the Anne Beadell to Neale Junction, up the Connie Sue to Warburton and returning to Adelaide via Uluru with a side trip to Surveyors General Corner.

    Rough itinerary is as follows
10/7/11 Sunday - Adelaide to Ceduna
11/7/11 Monday - Ceduna to the Head of the Bight to check out the whales then north to Cook
12/7/11 Tuesday - Cook to Vokes Hill Corner
13/7/11 Wednesday - Turn west onto the Anne Beadell Highway
    14/7/11 Thursday - Neale Junction
15/7/11 Friday - Turn north onto the Connie Sue Highway
    16/7/11 Saturday - Warburton
17/7/11 Sunday - Turn onto the Great Central Road to the GilesMeteorological Station
18/7/11 Monday - Surveyors General Corner
19/7/11 Tuesday - Yulara and Uluru

Timing is pretty flexible – we have plenty of additional days if we need more time.

Our team is one Prado, 2 Rodeos and one Enduro Motorbike!

All permits have been approved, cars are in the process of final checks with a few final mods to go and one more planning evening is scheduledf or the long weekend - so all systems are go!

I will provide updates as the planning progresses and a detailed trip report when we return.

Just need for July to roll on!

Yep - agree. Especially the first day! Only real requirement is to be back in Adelaide by Saturday so we have a couple of days if we need to extend our time on the Anne Beadell or Connie Sue. We certainly don't want to rush this trip. From all reports the outback is fantastic again this year. It will be interesting to compare the Great Victoria Desert to the Simpson which was pretty green and colourful last year.

        Getting excited again!

I would be inteninatlly planning a rest day in the middle of that. You have ten days of go go go. Add an extra day or two to allow for mechical or environmental delays. you may also find a cracker of a spot and want to enjoy an extra night

Obviously we will see plenty of pictures following your escapades. Looking forward to it.

Thanks Nick. Agree with your comments. Final planning session in a couple of weeks but only real commitment is to be back in Adelaide by Saturday (Sunday if absolutely necessary) which gives us 14-15 days for the trip. I think that will be enough for a couple of slow days! And if we get stuck (like we did last year for 3 days on the Birdville Track) and can't get back to work is that really that bad!

Nice trip to be had there.

I wait in interest to see the Surveyor Generals corner.
When we were planning the 2009 GTG that was on the list of things to do, but I had all sorts of trouble getting Permits for it, In the end it was only with an aboriginal guide, and it was many $$$ per person, Not per car. So unfortunatly we didnt go there.
So I hope you have cracked the code, and can get there and post some pics..

                Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

I must admit the planning for Surveyors General Corner has been the most challenging with lots of conflicting information, but I think with advice from the people like bushbasher (in another thread on this forum) we have a way forward. Time will tell!!

Okay - final planning has been completed. Ilkurkla has plenty of fuel, the track appears to be in reasonable shape and the weather is clearing so all systems are go!

Fitted a snorkel to my mates Rodeo on Friday night (finished at 1.30am) which was a bit of a challenge as we didn't have the correct template. But with calibrated fingers, lots of double measuring, a bottle of red to provide the last bit of courage, we drilled the holes and it fitted perfectly!

So with the final mods on my car (inverter in cargo area, fire ext mounted in back, rear seats removed, and a water separator in the fuel line) we are all set for a departure next Sunday.

Just wondering if anyone else is going to be around the Anne Beadell, Connie Sue over the coming weeks?
