Mt. Mee: Track closures

I haven't been up to Mt Mee for a while so I went for a drive there on Saturday morning with Bidla hoping to try out a few of the tracks. We entered from Chambers Flat Road hoping to go along Byron Creek Road, down to Diana's Bath and then try out Jacky Creek Road.

The first road closed sign meant we had to take Peggs Road which lead us up to the northern end of the A Break which was also closed. Went along the Western Escarpment Forest Drive past the Somerset Lookout and found a couple of tracks which lead us down to the Gantry.

We then tried Laceys Creek Road hoping to access the Range Road Forest Drive but the road was closed at Wirth Road.

We figured that these tracks might still be closed as a result of damage from the summer rains. Can anybody tell me if that is the case?

Rain damage closures - Parts of D'Aguilar National Park (including Mount Mee section) closed

This alert applies to the following parks:

D'Aguilar National Park

Due to landslides, track damage and dangerous conditions caused by the January rain event, part of D'Aguilar National Park (including the Mount Mee section) are closed temporarily for safety reasons.

The following areas within the park are closed:

- All backcountry campgrounds in the southern section apart from Dundas Road, Lightline Road and Scrub Road;

- The Audax loop;

- Parts of Lawnton Road and England Creek Road (fire trails);

- Wivenhoe Outlook day-use area; and

- Red Cedar day-use area.

The main forest drive accesses including Lovedays Road, L Traverse, Peggs Road, Chambers Road and Neurum Creek Road in the Mount Mee section of the park have reopened to 4WDs, along with Neurum Creek and Archer campgrounds, the Somerset Trail, the Piccabean walk and the Falls Lookout and Lophostemon walking tracks. The western escarpment section of the Park has been reopened for motorised use, which includes the escarpment forest drive to the Somerset Lookout and associated back country fire breaks in that area. In the interest of public safety, the remainder of the Mount Mee section will remain closed until further works and repairs can be carried out under natural disaster repair and recovery arrangements.

Vehicle access to the southern section of the park is closed. Permit holders (ie. aparists) should contact local staff for further information.

Works are currently underway across D'Aguilar National Park to allow public access back into rain affected areas. These areas will reopen once works are complete and the areas are safe.

Please go online or call 13 74 68 before heading to D'Aguilar National Park to check conditions.

The safety of visitors and the conservation of D'Aguilar National Park are of concern to the Department of Environment and Resource Management during these conditions.

Shouldn't be too long... I heard somewhere that A Break should be opening soon.
Hats off to the work they have already done though. Drove through there on my way to Kilcoy a few weeks ago and the main roads look great.
Hopefully they'll leave some challenging tracks in there and not totally grade everything.

I'm hoping to go up there June long weekend. Thanks for the info below most helpful. I also found this link that is full of information.

All going well we would like to travel from Dayboro starting at Laceys creek road on the tracks to Woodford. I'm still not sure exactly what tracks are open but hope to get more information.

Would you know where I can get detailed maps of the tracks?

4th April update...
Southern section still closed. Most southerly entry would be Chambers Rd.

The Audax loop;
Parts of Lawnton Road and England Creek Road (fire trails);
The back country trails in the southern part of the Mount Mee section; and
Part of the Maiala day-use area for the construction of a new toilet block.

The PDF map off the seem site is a pretty good guide.
Combine that with shonky maps and you should be right.

After many a phone call I managed to get hold of the park ranger who looks after that area. Helpful fellow advised some of the roads are still closed from the January storms but should be open tomorrow if the weather is good. If it rains he will keep them closed for a another week or so.

He tells me the roads are all repaired now so in good condition. I guess not that challenging but still seems like a nice drive.

Just an update on the tracks at MT Mee D'Aguilar National Park for those interested. Another park ranger called yesterday and gave me an update. He said due to the rain some of the tracks are still closed but assured me that all will be open for the June long weekend.

Must say a helpful bunch for both of them to take the time to call me a week apart. Really appreciate it.

Tackled Lacey's Creek road VIA MT Mee to Woodford on the weekend. Almost all the tracks were open and unfortunately in tip top condition. Nothing too challenging here at all but still worth the trip as there are some great spots along the way including Somerset Lookout (great spot for lunch). 'A Break' hill was a great run and had the kids screaming and laughing all at the same time.

Worth the drive.

Great news about the roads being open again, always a good drive anywhere on the mountain but the ones they had open were all getting a little familiar...

I have just seen a posting on the Mitsubishi 4WD Owners Club facebook page that the owners of the Diana's Bath property that ajoins to the National Park is no longer allowing acces to their property (I believe the track down that way is overgrown from other forum posts) and trespassers will be reported etc. It seems that DERM and Brad McCarthy (Dirty Weekends) have all been requested to remove references from their websites, books and brochures

The track has been closed with a carpark & its some 1>2kms from the swimming hole, so u had to walk if u wanted to get there.....not worth it in my opinion, there's better water holes than that one
