The Prado at Uluru - all shiny and clean

A wet trip along the Great Central Road

    Staked tyre on the GCR

      The start of the CSR

Ice in the morning at North Pool. One morning I went to fill the kettle from the jerry can ont he roof and the water in the hose had frozen solid.

      Well 4 (I think)

Windich Springs - you can see why Canning and his party enjoyed this place so much. The water was 3-4m deep in places.

        Well 5 (I think)

The spinifex was like driving through a field of wheat in some places.

        Corrugations!

I didn't have to worry about the mud on the sides - the trees and shrubs scratched it all off after a while. Also a small dint from a stump I didn't see while fiddling with the GPS.

Durba Gorge - what a place to camp!

Climbing a dune. You can see the long run-up track in the background and can just see the 'normal' track coming in closer to the dune. I really can't see why you need such a big run up if you have your tyres at the right pressure.

Who said this was a desert.

Plenty of shrubs and trees to pinstripe your paintwork

Saw no camels before Well 22 and dozens from then on.

              Mud drying on Gravity Lake

There is a good reason you don't drive off the track on claypans. These wheel tracks were only a few metres off the track. I'm not sure how long the vehicle was stuck but they were obviously desperate - the two red things you can see at the far end of the left wheeltrack are jerry cans.

The group at Breaden Pool in the Breaden Hills. These hills are one of the most spectacular parts of the track.

Cooking day at Well 49. We took packet bread mix to cook in the camp oven and it worked a treat. We used Laucke (spelling?) brand because it actually had camp oven instructions on the packet.

Great report mate...we just got lucky I suppose as the Simmo opened two days before we got there, but then again we left 5 weeks after you.

Your fuel was about the same as mine, although I had a bucket load of stuff on the top so I wasn't surprised...we did around 7000 Kms, top price we paid was $2.20 at William Creek and I averaged about 13 Litres per 100K (probably 12.86 but that's close enough)

We copped the Mice (and rats) and I have a heap of scratches on each side of the Prado...and funny you should say this but it was covered in Red Mud after our time in the Flinders and by the time I got across to Birdsville is was almost all gone.

The CSR and Tanami are on the bucket list....think I'll tackle CP first!!

Otherwise great report and as always love the photo's

Ha ha! Were several weeks ahead of them. I'm guessing their problems were a combination of going too fast and standard shocks. None of the 9 vehicles in our group had any suspension problems.

Loved the report and photos, very jealous.

This trip has been on our list for a long time but unfortunately work has got in the way. Now, if the wife gets made redundant at the right time and I can take a few months off, anything is possible..........
