Alan how much do you think the trailer had to do with it . My mate said my trailer was floating it was probably lifting the back of the car up who knows .2 hiluxes and my fathers challenger no trailers not one drama. My mate in a 76 with trailer and my self didn't make it . While getting some of the water out of the car six cars all without trailers went on the far right no one got stuck . Would I do it with a trailer again? Yep, just need to be pulled out quicker if I get stuck again ha

It was a bit like "aircraft investigation" a series of things had to go wrong to achieve the end result. With over 30 years of off roading and this my first (although a biggy, and hopefully last) misshap I am not about to stop doing what I love.

      Cheers

The only thing I think the trailer contributed to was my taking the corner too wide putting me in the soft stuff. And as you say a good game plan for when things go wrong is whats needed. In anything over Knee deeo water you need to be set up with a buddy to get you out in under 30 seconds. I am even considering getting a rated winch hook for the end of the snatch strap to save time with D shackles. But I will do some research on that first as I am not sure they will take the load generated by the snatch but can't see why not.

        Cheers

From our experiences in July and talking to others, there were two major factors at work when crossing Nolan's:

          1. How heavy your car was (i.e. did it start to float?)
          2. How many cars had just crossed in the hour or so before you (i.e. how chewed up was the sand base?)

Depending on the answers to these, very different results could occur when crossing the creek...

We'd heard about the problems crossing, so attached a snatch strap between the vehicle already across, to the next vehicle about to cross. All went well. No drownings.
          Rob.

Thank you for the info Adam. I think you are right about the other vehicles contributing Steve. The first thing Andy at RACQ Bamaga said to me was "were you the third or fourth vehicle to cross?" I said "Fourth" he said "it is always the third or forth" I will never forget that comment along with "what would you do if you dropped your mobile phone in a bucket of water?" I replied throw it away. He then said "Whats the differrence between your Prado and your mobile phone?" I said "$70K" he said "No just four tyres". Andy was a top bloke and I would of been stuffed without his help.

              Cheers

Glad to see you have come back with a vengence mate. If your going in 2013 I'd be more than happy to come tag along to pull you out just in case. As long as I'm not 3rd or 4th HA HA.
Brilliant to see you back driving a Prado around the bay.
                Well done...

                Cheers
