Sydney to Perth

Well, following the success of the recent 2 week trip through Great Ocean Rd, Marree, William Ck, Birdsville, Innamincka, Broken Hill, etc., we've decided that we're off again.

We're now leaving next week for a cross-country run to Perth,with a drive through the SW corner to Esperance and then back across to home. We've been over there a few times, but always flown across, so this time we're driving.

As such, I'm interested to hear of any interesting things along the way that aren't too far off the main route. Things such as some of the sinkholes/caves that we can look into, obviously the old telegraph building ruins, etc., best places to get across to the clifftops overlooking the Bight and so on.

I think we'll be pushing it in terms of catching the whale watching season, but you never know.....

Yes, I intend to at least tee off on one hole along there. My surgeon says golf is not allowed since the spinal fusion (though pitch-n-putt short games wouldn't be an issue) but I don't see why one tee short should be a problem....

If you are heading to Esperance, you can go go the fun way, turn off a bit after Balladonia, head to Mt Ragged, you can climb this and there are campsites. You'll probably have it all to yourself too. Then down a fairly rough track to Israelite bay. There is bush camping here, with the old station ruins etc, then along the coast, Duke of New Orleans caravan park or one of the National park sites to the East, then onto Esperance via some of the best beaches you'll ever see in Cape Le Grand National Park. You can drive along most of these too.
Alternatively from Mt Ragged you can follow the rough track that heads SW to join the Fisheries Rd into Esperance. All very good fun with heaps to see and not many other people around.
