We decided we needed another offroad fix and headed north of Melbourne to Kinglake on Sunday. After a bakery stop and letting the first wave of rain to pass, we headed off out along Robertson Rd. We tried to find the old wooded Battery housing structure but couldn't find it. We assumed it was engulfed by the Black Saturday fires.
Does anyone know if it is still standing ?
From there we went a way down Boggy Creek trk past the sign saying the river bridge is out. A few mud holes later we turned around and came back up.
Now the rain had stopped we tried to go all the way along Robertson Rd, but once the road was a track it split. One ended at a gate the other got too rutted and narrow to continue. We did however nearly get stuck in one bog and did manage to bog and snatch out the pathfinder.
We returned to the Mt Robertson track and had lunch before doing a run up and over the top. We bottemed on a couple of wash ramps on the track which stopped the Pathfinder altogether. We did the trip over and back without any more issues.
All in all a good day out. There is a lot of regrowth in the area which is great to see, both natural and housing wise. Many reminders of that tragic day, black skeleton trees and empty blocks.
Recovery score so far: Xtrail 1;Pathfinder 1; Prado 0
