  • NSW - Bulahdelah State Forest, Red Belly Hill

I was up in the Bulahdelah/Myall Lakes region over the weekend, and like always, went exploring the fire trails. We asked a local where we can find a really steep and rocky hill, and he gave us some rough directions to this:

It's not obvious in the photos, but this is very steep, and just as daunting as Mt Walker. Most of it is dirt/crumbling rock, with several step ups, and there's a section of solid rock.

This should demonstrate how steep it is:

            Here's the vid guys:

I think it looks incredibly easy on the video. Perhaps if I ran without the lockers a few times it'd be more impressive :/

Something like that! We actually found this from the top.. We noticed a side track which dropped off pretty suddenly so jumped out to take a look. As we walked down towards the drop off, it just kept on going! Eventually we could see the whole down hill and thought.. oh s*t, this must be it!

Ratios = Awesome power delivery at any speed.
Lockers = I kept the rear on the whole time for this climb, and used the front on demand. Nothing but traction
Tyres = Due to the steep grade of this climb I figured the tyres would let me down and I'd end up spinning with 4 wheels. Surprisingly not. The tyres are performing greater than I expected, although they did take a little beating on this climb.

That's pretty intense! You do make it look easy though. I think I'd be wasting my time to try and climb that. It would be a great way to finish my front diff off!

Well.........the way you have driven this doesn't justify the difficult nature of the track...........or you make every track seem so easy :-)

Here's a video of Declan and I having a go at red belly hill, and a new track I found with a couple locals. The second climb is definitely steeper, longer, and is basically all loose dirt/rocks. In my opinion this is much worse than Mt Walker as it's steeper and has very little solid rocks for grip.

PS: Declan put on a very impressive show!
