Nice country up there, the creek crossings are great fun, especally when the water is above the bonnet.

Nice one Keith. You've taken in some magnificent countryside with that route. It is also one of my favourite runs.

Did you notice whether the free camping at Alice, next to the Clarence River crossing, was permitted again? I have heard murmurings that the "Camping Not Permitted" signs were being withdrawn, though I haven't been down that way in a while to confirm.

It was a little bit deeper than I thought.......was expecting up to the top of the wheel arch, but it went through no probs at all.

Signs didn't stop us last time, just tell them that you got in after dark

We saw someone camped at the Alice crossing when we came through heading home from the GTG. We camped at another crossing futher south, there was no sign saying no camping on the north side of the river, we saw a no camping sign on the south side of the river after we left. Several others camped at the same palce we did, so nobody really takes any notice of the signs even if they see them.

Edit: Tooloom Falls is a good spot to free camp as well.

                Cheers Andrew

LiveFreeAndRoam About the free camping at Alice there was about four camp sites happing when I went through there what a friend told me is that the land owners fence went down in the floods early this year on the river bank but there is crown land on the eastern side of the bridge up on the grassy bank. The story about the no camping sign came about a few years ago when the department of primary industries put them up because there was a lot of people camping, riding motor bikes around the old glen innes rd at buccrumbi and leaving rubbish every where when they left to go home . As for alice i think it is ok to camp there as well as washpool creek west of baryulgil, also good free camping at broadwater at jackadery. cheers keith
