I can see the big patrol parked in the driveway at Cherrybrook, problem is the bigger and better the more risks and bigger bolders he will try and climb over lol will probably end up on its side, I suppose he can keep the 95 as a backup for when he runs out of fuel in the patrol he can drive the prado around and save up to refill the patrol. Geez I'd hate to think how much $$$ that bloke has spent on the patrol ?? 200 thou, he's had some fun I'd imagine. Maybe used just for touring going by the trailer connections not for rock hopping ?? Cheers Steve

I'm not sure I'd want forced induction. The 4.5L have plenty of grunt as it is.

I'm going to look at a mum's taxi 4.2 Petrol Auto GQ Patrol tomorrow.

Would you sell the prado ?? Mate you reckon your prado can be thirsty, wait till you get a patrol and start filling that sucker up, it wont be the amount it takes like the prado but the amount of times it will take it lol !!!!!!! Maybe gas would be the go with the klms you do ?? Or you going to use the patrol just for weekend play ?? Why the 4.2, why not go for a 4.5 few changes better motor ?? Have to admit the patrol would have to be the best off road vehicle for rock hopping and general hardcore stuff, while the prados are a great vehicle you can only go so far then you just cant beat that coil suspenion at all 4 corners and live axle front and back...Cheers Steve

                      • In all seriousness GQ's are great and I'd love to have a monster one, but you'll have to look hard for a good one. Ben will attest to that. I guess your job will be fairly easier though, as you're going for petrol.

It's already running LPG (not dual fuel though). I figure a Petrol Auto is going to have had the easiest life of any engine/transmission combination and it would be my preferred option to. I reckon it will struggle to get 300km out of its LPG tank which would be useless even for day trips. so I may need to look at options to increase its fuel capacity.

Yeah the Prado would have to go. I have thought about ways to make the Prado into a more hard core beast but I don't have the patience to do what glep_ep has done. I have day dreamed about removing the sub tank completely, sorting some bash plates for the transmission and transfer case and some kind of improvised rear diff protection. But I think it would be a waste of time when the GQ Patrol is a much cheaper vehicle that needs none of this and has a better wheel track and wheel base for steep climbs. It will take 33's with much less trouble than a Prado too.

I know a road legal monster truck is no longer possible but 2" lifted GQ with 33's (or 32's if that's all that is legal) with twin lockers with leave my Prado for dead on the rocks. I hope it doesn't take 6 months to find good petrol specimen like it did Ben to find his deso.
