  • VIC High Country, Easter 2011

I've finally started uploading some videos of a trip I done earlier this year. I have hours of video but can only upload the highlights.

After many hours heading down from Sydney, the first offroad experience was crossing the border at Tom Groggin:

From there we made the long climb up Mt Pinnibar. We met a group of 4 coming down who had given up the climb due to slippery conditions. My mate got stuck in the very same spot they gave up, a quick snatch and it was all easy rock after that. We had a VERY cold night up there; temperatures were definitely in the negatives. Awesome views the next day:

Next; Mt Gibbo, not far from the border. It was a rocky and pretty fun climb:

We spent some time making our way down via Omeo and Dargo to the Talbotville/Wongungarra region.

First great adventure was Billy Goat's Bluff, sorry, video later..

Next, my mate taking a mud bath in Wongungarra valley:

We camped down neat Talbotville with a friendly NSW 4x4 group.

The next day we tackled some more local tracks before heading out via South Basalt Knob track; definitely the roughest track we encountered on this trip, and very thrilling!

Our last night was on Blue rag range; no words can describe this one:

PS: Sorry for all these Patrol images. Unfortunately I can't film myself

Great shots, glen_ep. We were there at the same time and did most of the tracks you did - fantastic views at the top of Blue Rag and the South Basalt Knob Track was our highlight. In fact it was the maiden trip for us in the new Prado. Some cheeky ba...rd Jeep driver questioned whether we'd ever get a Prado up Blue Rag....... He would have been amazed to see one coming down Basalt Knob on that basis. Love that part of the country.

Yeah I found some cheeky guys down there as well, about 4 trucks, young guys, one of them had already rolled their ride. Can't recall if one was a jeep.

I did run into a Jeep Unlimited on Billy Goat's Bluff, he almost reversed off the edge before I yelled out!

Our first track down into the Talbot/Wongongarra region was Hibernia Rd; which was very steep and very thrilling for a first time. At about the steepest/roughest section we met a couple 4x4's coming up, but luckily there was just enough room to pass.

Then we crossed the Wonnangatta River crossing, just near the Kingswell bridge:

Billy Goat's Bluff was a long and steep climb! When approaching the helicopter pad early in the climb, there was a point where all I could see is sky, and didn't know where to go; a bit more and you find it's a hard left. Once at the top it's still a bit of a drive to get to the Pinnicles. The track wasn't difficult, AT's and experience is all you need.

Traffic makes the drive interesting as most of the track is narrow. At the most narrow section (see video picture below), we met 2 vehicles oncoming, whilst having 6 behind us. Then, straight after that, on another steep/narrow section we come across 2 more!
