  • Thompson State Forest Trip Report

Hi all, spent a wonderful weekend camping and 4wding in the Thompson State Forest.

We had an amazing campsite right on the Aberfeldy River and tackled some very challenging and fun 4wd tracks. At one point, we even came close to rolling the Prado reversing back down a VERY steep track. A real heart stopper!

I've written a full report, with 4 videos and a photo slideshow on my blog. Click here

Just click on the Thompson State Forest heading for the full story.

    A couple of teaser photos...

    Cheers, Sam.

          Hi Sam,
enjoyed every video. thanks for sharing. The reversing of the vehicle in the 4th video is awesome and at 5:40 i felt nervous watching the wheel lift :-)

          Awesome videos.

          Cheers,

Glad you enjoyed the videos Melbo. Nervous is one word for how I was feeling when the front wheel lifted reversing back down the hill. I can also think of another few words

As per usual from you Sam, great videos. I'm currently looking for a place to take the family in the next few weeks and i think we have a winner. Thanks
It's actually a very standard 03 GXL V6 Auto with Toyota Bullbar which has never seen dirt.
Wish list: 2 inch lift, A/T tyres, Dual battery set up, Safari Snorkle, ARB Bar with winch, lightforce spotties.
Planning on making up for all those years of bitumen only travel.

Good Videos, Get yourself a winch and not only could you have kept going it would have been safer than reversing down.

Lockers are also a good option. Amazing how far you can go without the need to even bring the winch out.
                    ...........Heaps of cool stuff

05gxl - it sure is a magic spot! Was lucky enough to score a 2nd GoPro for Chrissy so will be able to capture a few more angles now.

Sefo - winch may have worked but the only reason we got stopped was the rear diff vein hung up in the centre of the rut. Don't think lockers would have made a difference in that situation although I am keen to get one in the rear.

                      Cheers, Sam.
