I think so mate. There were vehicles going both ways and a few of them seemed to be stock standard. The track should have dried out even more during the week.

      Craigm,

I know its been just over a month since I was up and I know road conditions can change quickly but Jim's description of the road sounds not much different to my experience. In places it can be a bit tricky but I had a first timer in a stock Prado 150 (first time ever owning and driving a 4wd) and he followed me up with only a few bumps and knocks underneath (ouch new car). We also noted there was a Subaru and another all wheel drive (maybe Kia) making their way down. I found the biggest pain was passing other vehicles in the narrow sections. In the bunch up of vehicles crawling up there could have been almost 20. Vehicles coming down was no stop .

As you know if you place your wheels in the right place you can get around a lot of obstacles and ruts. The Cherokee won't have a problem and its a real fun track that's also picturesque. Stop at the lookouts along the way they are worth a few photos. May go up myself during these school holidays and get the kids out and away from the idiot box.

PS: P&W never recommend using the track. I think its a standard spiel for some reason.

      Have fun

Thanks Hazza. I was checking for my colleague and not heading up with him. He was travel long by himself and look for a nice, easy in the dry first offroad experience in his brand new Cherokee. Following Fridays reports I passed on P&w's recommendations and advised that if he was traveling alone with his wife & kids, that he try a different trip out of dirty weekends as I didn't want to be the one responsible for his inexperience. Having said all this, I might follow your lead and take the squids up there in the 2nd week of holidays also. Most likely head up in the RAV4 as its the company car and a company car can go anywhere a standard fourby can go right?

Sunday taking the family up to O'Reilly's via Duck Creek Road along with one or two more families. Should be a nice day for a bush walk and lunch at the top. May even let the missus have a drive down, it will be her first time behind the wheel off road. I better be careful not to push my feet through the floor.... ahhh fear- terror ahhh

We went up for a quick family run on the way to the beach yesterday.
The council has been busy grading the road, I personally would not call it a 4WD only track now. No ruts on the main track at all and just a smooth gravel road. We saw a ford falcon station wagon easily do it and it was wet.....
I did notice a few side tracks have been created near the top though. Still nice view up the top.
              Cheers

Sunday we did a run up to O'Reilly's for a picnic with some friends who just purchased a great wall 4x4 via Duck creek Road. As Robert said it's good enough for a normal car its so well graded. Even the water crossings are slightly raised and dry. No fun any more but still worth going if you like to spend some time at the top and enjoy that awesome view.

Did a two hour fifty walk to the falls and below. I think I need a new set of legs and and twin hip replacement - the pain the pain lol
