  • NSW: Saturday January 7th Wheeny Creek/Gees Arm South Rock Crawling Adventure.

I just thought I would share some pics (and videos if I get around to editing them into a watchable state) from today's rock crawling on the gees arm south track near Wheeny Creek.

    Attendees were:
    Myself - 90 series + 1" lift + rear locker + 32" MTZ's
    Scottie - GU Patrol + 2" lift + 33" Kumo muddies
    Nick - GU Patrol + 4-5" lift + tight LSD + 35" Maxxis Bighorns
Russell - GU Patrol, stock except for 31" all terrains

Notice we had the snatch straps ready to go from the start.

Nick purposely chose the dumbest line he could.

I chose a more sensible line that was within the limits of the Prado's clearance.

Russell was still warming up at this stage so he took the easiest entrance.

The first of many of what I like to call "rock gardens" that when we encountered.

The rear locker allowed me to drive much slower than any of the Patrols who had to rely on their LSDs and momentum to get through.

Rusty was "in the zone" by now so he wasn't interested in the chicken track for this bit.

It took a few attempts but he got through with a little scraping.

A lovely little rock step that I avoided last time.

Once the Prado had done it, there was no way the Patrols could take the chicken track.

                Scottie made it look easy.

On to the next rock garden where once again, Russell refused to take the stock Nissan on the chicken track.

                  Flexing the stock suspension

Nick found an interesting line that involve diff-rock contact on several occasions.

Scottie had no trouble as usual.

In the rock garden, Russell was a bit optimistic in his choice of line, but he got through with some hair raising scraping on the side steps.

Nick's climb was uneventful. He made it... that's all there is to say really...

It was then on the hill climb where I needed to use the winch last time.

Russell has some traction issues at the same point I did but he got through with some right foot.

                          Nick in another entertaining predicament.

Unfortunately it was in this rock garden that the house of cards came crashing down when one of Scotties rear uni-joints snapped. Nick and Scottie got to work with the spanners and removed the rear prop shaft so Scottie could limp home with font wheel drive.

You certainly did break it Scottie. Sorry mate, I hope you can get it sorted soon.

The exhaust pipe touched and the Tow bar took a hit from a rock that I thought I would have cleared easily I climbed back up easily. Even the stock GU made it back up that rock step.

The off camber path that Boomslang took last time. No winching was required though, I kept a constant speed and got straight up.

Yeah the very same. I took a line through the rock steps to Nick's left.

Not to the end, I think it went for quite a bit further. I did however drive solo to the next rock Garden which Sako85 had said was worse than anything earlier in the track. He wasn't wrong. The climb was in two distinct halves with about 4 possible lines for the first half and maybe 2 possibilities for the top half.

I made it through without the winch and I turned back after that. No pictures as I was by myself. In hind sight, a photo of the rocks themselves would have been better than nothing, but I was enjoying the moment too much
