Steven ran a 16"x8", wide offset rim with a 33" tyre? Desperate situations call for desperate measures I guess

What happened in the end Steven?

ended up getting the farther in-law to bring up a spare rim and drove it home. yeah the unluck thing is it was on the front so when we went to fit the 16x8 relised the rim was to small so swapped it for a rear one and away we went. YES the 33 fit on the rear so it was a good trial fit to get me thinking about how i could get them on the front as well

Well it turns out my front driver side tyre has fresh damage as well! On the right, it has cut through the outer layer:

Here's one of my videos from the day:

great trip report fellas, love that photo of the 3 4bees at black fellows hand trail with the trees and the rock faces in the background, and it looks like you need to carry a cold chisel and a decent hammer in the tool kit as well. cheers samo (thats the boily comming out in me)

Thanks Samo. That photo is a stitch of 7 vertical shots, taken with my HD video camera. I've added a higher res version: http://www.mighty90s.com/photos/glen..._pano_1920.jpg

We considered undoing the entire wheel carrier but there's still a weld on the backside, and despite having many tools, nothing as strong as a cold chisel. A grinder would have been perfect! (err, and 240v's)

              Guys

              Great report & videos.
Has confirmed that my decision to order a Prado is the right one.
May I ask what type & size tyres the black Prado has?
If the two damaged tyres are not repairable what will you replace them with?

I am thinking of moving straight to BFG KM2's either in 265 x 70 x 17or 285's if I can confirm they will fit.

              Thanks again

                  Thanks!
My 95 series Prado only has a damaged tyre, not destroyed, it'll be fine. The black 150 Prado definitely lost a tyre, the hole in the sidewall was huge! Standard upgrade size for a 150 is 265/70R17 but Steven "spitfireslw" is considering trying a larger skinny size; 255/80R17 (which will have the same overall size as mine). It seemed to fit the rear okay, but it wasn't tested with extreme articulation, and we'd expect the front will have rubbing issues.

No worries mate, I was pretty slack myself and didn't take that much. It would have been good to have more from on the Lost City track, but it's always a balance between recording and simply enjoying the day.

As for the punture, I wonder if there was something hiding in the large pool of water...

well yokoharma are supplying me a brand new wheel for free so can't complain. As for the lock nut, i took it in to toyota and they have a service bulletin for the replacement of it as it has been know to fail as mine did.

Just to update the track conditions of Baal Bone...

I thought it would be a nice day trip to take a few newbies out along this track. Two of the six cars were standard, Jackaroo and Pajero with HT's thinking they would have no trouble due to the track being easy two months ago. I was wrong and the track took almost six hours to complete with constant recoveries.

                            How things have changed...

My first time bogged for a long time

Second time bogged, took over an hour to get out of this situation.

So if you plan on doing Baal Bone be prepared for deep mud and lots of it.

Wow, that is a change indeed.
Remember when we were there, we passed a group on the way out? They asked about the track conditions, they seemed to be worried about mud... at the time I thought their concern was strange given their vehicles looked quite capable.... all makes sense now!

Ben, does this mud pit look at all familiar?

This was the only mud I can remember from the last time I was there back in January 2011.
