  • WA - Nanga 4WD Heritage Circuit

Justo and I went for a little play today. We started with a little beach run from White Hills Rd (just South of Mandurah) down to Preston Beach. About 22 Kms of beach - and soft as butter. We had a couple of near misses - as the beach narrowed up and got really soft - but a combination of low range, soft tyres and a heavy right boot got us through without any dramas.

Then it was up into the foothills to have a play in some mud - if there was any left after a week of warm, dry weather. I had wanted to have a look at the Nanga 4WD Heritage Circuit for a while but the last time I went I was by myself and one section of the track was closed off as it was a quagmire. This time around it was quite a tame ride but it did have some fun bits ... as the pics show ...

Looks pretty tame from here ...

    Then it got deeper ...

    ... and deeper ...

    ... and deeper

Oops. Sudden change of direction. That's why you don't wrap your thumbs around the wheel - keep them on the outside.

What looked fairly harmless turned out to be really deep and full of submerged timber.

Justo managed to find all of the timber ... and then he wasn't going anywhere. Out with the winch cable.

Once Justo had cleared the obstacles the hole became a fun place to be.

    Forward or reverse.

This last hole even had some nice angles to play with

For any of you WA guys who want a pleasant day out - combined with maybe a little play in the Prado - here is a mud map and set of trip notes that Russ posted earlier ...

    Cheers

Nah, Justo was looking for another way out of the hole .. then managed to find some grip At a guess I'd say he was distracted ... He had Andre in the car with him - and didn't have any industrial strength earplugs. Andre had already talked the handles off the doors ...

Only had to use the cable once ... and then only because someone buried some trees in the hole

No, no standard format. This was just an ad hoc thing - more of a recon run to see what was around for a WA PP day out. We didn't start out until about 10.30 - beach run - morning tea - travel up into the hills - lunch stop - bush track - afternoon tea ...

It was more about timing a run, seeing if we could fit 20 cars into the rest stops, seeing if there was some fun for everyone - including ways around the uglier bits. We're working on the theory that our trips will include a broad range from 'brand new Prado' or 'what does this lever do?' to 'Rhino pit - Yeehaa' ... and we want to be able to include everyone and make sure everyone has a bit of fun - and then comes along on the next trip.

                        Cheers
