  • Fraser Island 16th-21st of September

Fraser island: Six Vehicles all up, two Prado's, one Vitara, one Patrol, one Navara, one 100 series Cruiser.

The Patrol left the previous day and the Navara and the Cruiser arrived the following day, so a not too early start on the sunday morning saw the two Prado's and the Vitara head for inskip point about 9am as high tide was at 11am. After fueling up and having lunch at rainbow we headed for the barge, the sand was the softest i have ever seen it and with in 10 metres on to the beach we had the Vitara bogged.

We couldn't even push it out after some digging with the shovel.

Then we went for the the snatch strap but i was two close and in the soft sand. Then we had the the prado half bogged.

Backed out the prado and then we had to join two straps to get the vitara out. I should have not been lazy and done this in the first place.

Finally on the barge and on our way to Fraser.

Day two we took a nice easy run through the forest to lake Mackenzie.

The lake is just beautiful and the swimming is fantastic.

A couple of shot's along the beach on the way back to the resort.

Day Three we decided to head to the very top of the island( a 3-4 hour run at high tide), we took both Prado's, the Navara and the Cruiser. High tide was at 1.30pm so it was going to be a long day dodging the tide.

A quick stop at the Maheno on the way up but not for long as the tide times were agaianst us.
After spending a hour at south Nagala rocks extracting the Navara we finally made it to the top about 12pm.

We set up camp and waited for the tide to turn for the run home and had a fish with all of the pro's, plenty of Taylor been caught that day.
The run home was in the soft sand and we had to drive over the rocks at North Nagala.

The two Prado's negoiating the rocks with ease.

We arrive back at the Champayne Pools and as timing would have it we happen to run into "BA77HY" from the forum up their on holidays, he spotted the sticker and came over for a chat, Good to meet up with a fellow pradopointer.

Day Four, we headed to Eli Creek for the day. to have a quite family day with the kids after the 9 hour run the previous day.

That is my best profile with the little princess.

When ever we are at Eli creek we always have to do a under body wash. Today it was lucky to be a foot deep, yesterday it was about two feet deep when we were coming home from the Top.

It was our last full day on the island so we got a few shots and headed home.

    The afternoon Beach.

A very friendly Local, we thought he was going to jump in the car he was that Friendly.

    The 694's make their mark.

The coloured sands constantly change along the eastern beach.

That was a few shots from our little four day trip, the beauty of fraser is that every time you go their it is never the same as the last time.

If you haven't been to fraser you just haven't really experienced sand driving at it's most spectacular.

Great photos. Looks like a nice place to visit. Does the boat ride cost much?

No way ... being lucky enough to to have a long chunk of LSL and a Prado to play with is fun ....

making the most of every trip - big or small - is what it's all about.

And now that I've been bitten by this amateur photography bug I look at pics like yours, and a couple of other PP regulars, and I have something to aspire to.

My trip cost about $150 for a ride on the barge - 5 people - and a Parks pass ... but we left from River Head. Apparently the barge ride from Inskip Point is about half that.

          Cheers

Chippy, funny you say that about the photo's as most of them were taken on the our little canon digital not the wife's good gear. The first thing she said to me this morning was the photo's look dark as i don't edit much when i do it versus she does the whole photoshop thing.
She took a heap of landscape shots, i will post some up soon, when she has editted them???

Looks like a great 4 days away from reality Hutch... haven't been to Fraser yet but Zowie has and she's keen to go back for a week or so again soon.

Same as us re the pics... most of our really memorable shots on holidays are taken with our Pentax P&S camera and not my gear (esp when it's waterproof )

Have you finished cleaning the Prado yet??... I've heard funny stories about the 'entry ritual' that must be followed each and every time someone gets into the car off the beach
                  Cheers, Leon

Is this referring to the wife taking the piss out of me, she should know as most of the sand removed was from her side, the sand mats do a great job though, as for cleaning, as follows.

Mate i took it to place at Geebung and for $70 bucks they flushed the chassis rails and hosed out underneath, cleaned out the engine bay, put it up on the hoist again and flush out underneath again and then i went to my car detailer and for $45 it was again looking like brand new.
I will use this place evrytime after the big trips as i think it is $70 bucks well spent.

$115 dollars one day no sweat from myself and keeping the car in good condition.

That sounds like a pretty good deal... I think my chassis could do with a good hose out plenty of muck in there I'm sure.

Stand on side step... kicks sand off feet/shoes... then and only then get in car

My "entry ritual" is quite simple-

I have a soft banister brush at every door. Just stand on the side step and brush your feet of with the brush. It keeps heaps more sand out of the car and even works quite well when your feet are still wet. I also have michelles sacs canvass seat covers and sandgrabba mats throughout.
