  • Short Notice Wellington Mills/Dam trip.

In short I'm heading down that way next week to meet up with family and wondered if there were any local PPers that wanted to do some Saturday morning 4wding. Nothing too extreme unless it gets quite wet (I haven't been offroad down that way in some months so the tracks may have changed somewhat...). The original idea was for some logging type roads and a couple of steep firetrails/powerline sections and some transport stages finishing up at the Wellington Dam bbqs for a late lunch. How late depends on how much we get stuck. I am prepared to lead of course but we will have to nominate a tail end charlie before we leave. Byo everything (Bbq stuffs, drinks, recovery gear, etc), there will be a toilet stop arcoss from the Wellington Mills Bush Fire Brigade in Wellington Mills and another when we get to the Wellington dam. And we will be using UHF CH14.

    Sat 31st Mar 2012
    Meet at gnomesville at 0900.
Finish at Wellington Dam About 1300.

I was down there a few weeks back and did a bit of teh powerline track, but not really knowing where i was going - i would love to get back and see what I missed.
Have to check with SWMBO to see fi she is interested, a leave pass might be hard to arrange as we are planning a beach run this weekend as well.

Well what a day... The track was nice and dry and with a couple of revised line choices we made it through. The winch was of great help shifting one of the fallen trees and an extra inch or two ground clearance over some of the crests wouldn't have hurt either. The drive over to the dam nice along the King Tree road but falcon rd was badly corrugated. I even had time to do Lenards Track along the river. This isn't normally the kind of track I'd tackle on my own but we made it through ok, though I dont think we would have if it had been wet.
