Oh righteo, is the Diggings track pretty basic? AJ was that the track that starts near Captains Crossing? I've heard that's a great track but I've also been told it's gated up at the moment?

Yeah I'd definitely be keen to go for a spin up there, especially with someone that knows their way around. A couple of the fellas from work are starting to kit their Prado's out for a trip up the cape next year so they might be keen to tag along as well...

As from davez pics id say its above basic. I got partly up the diggings track lasttime and my auto shift lever broke... I turned back for home at that point. Its just a matter of getting out for the day and having a look around. Im not sure where captains crossing is though. Its in the same area i think.

Well I'd be keen round the start of Feb as I'll have new tyres and hopefully have lift in by then. So long as it's not too wet I'd be in for a day trip up there for a bit of a look around.

I cant recall exactly where it started, near the Pinnacles hotel from memory, we got some track notes from the info centre in Mackay but they were pretty useless. The main track we were on was pretty easy, but a few side tracks had some fun stuff. We were on our own and heading for the cape so didn't get too adventurous so far from home.

Would love to head back some day and check out some more around that area, loved it!

Yeah it sounds like it could just be one of my favourite new places to visit. It's the closest place I know of to here as well which is handy.

Sorry Joshy, haven't been on in a while. As said, the diggings track starts between the dam and Eungella. There's a 90 degree right hand turn on the dirt road if you are heading from the dam, with a road branching off to the left, goes past a quarry, that's where you head in. The other end of the track is signposted and is just out of Eungella a couple kms. The track isn't anything too extreme, if it's dry you wouldn't really have any worries, but some spots were a bit tricky as the ground was still wet when I was there and I had the stock tyres still fitted.



I'm off next week to Cape Palmerston, See how I go towing my boat up the beach and through the tracks :/ lol

Thanks for the info DaveZ. I havent had a chance to get up there yet and probably won't until I have lift and new tyres, but its definately high on my to do list. Cape Palmerston is also on my to do list actually. I'd be interested to hear how it goes.

Will let you know, cape Palmerston is easy in an unmodded truck. Was up there a week ago. The beach was perfect but can be soft in one area around shifty point, the rest is pretty easy going. The inland track can be a bit tougher and is pretty overgrown so you will get scratches. I'll be towing a 5.2m glass boat so I'll see how I go.

The diggings track can be done in an unmodded truck too but need to be pretty careful in places. I still don't have a lift on mine but do have some good bash plates fitted. The lift is on the list.
