  • SEQ - Easter - The Springs 4x4 Park

    Guys,

Myself and 2 others are booked at the springs for 3 nights (6th to the 9th) over Easter. Anyone at a loose end welcome to join. We have a few others coming for 1 night (sunday) - should be fun. The park is only about half booked at this stage http://www.thesprings4x4.com.au/

At this stage we will be leaving early Friday - 6am, it's about 3-3.5hrs from the Goldy, similar from Brisvegas so should land about 9am.

Let me know if you're keen!

A timely post Double_D, I only made the arrangements a week back to be at the Springs over Easter.
I'll be there from Thursday the 5th with 8 other vehicles, so I'm sure we'll catch up over that weekend.

    cheers

Excellent - I should hopefully have my vehicle back by Thusday.... ARB's had it for a week now, my front diff is stuffed - needed all new bearings & seals + having to get the tophat machined and sleeved in Townsville as the old bearings spun in the housing which ate about 2mm hole into it. Repair bill about $1200 at this stage . This was all due to not having enough preload on the bearings

Worst case senario and I don't get it back, I will still come out but hitch a ride with my mate in his Challanger.

Don't talk about preload on the bearings had my car at a coff's harbour shop for three times with problems with the air lockers and the fourth time I went up at the arb shop in brisbane he said that there was no preload on the bearings AT ALL there was 25 thousand play instead of 10 thousand talk about machanics went to brisbane touch wood no more problems its worth the travel

We had a great time at the springs, did some challanging tracks (inc beer o'clock hill) and managed to break my rear crownwheel/pinion at the top of the 2nd gear climb hill . I didn't think I'd ever break it having Nitro gear set, arb locker and solid pinion spacer, so not sure where it's gone wrong.... probably too much right foot boucing up that rock face!!

Anyway here are some vids of some of the action

Awesome climb (sorry to hear about the sustained damage though!) Is this the same gear that failed last time?

no I haven't had a gear failure yet.... I had problems in the front diff with my bearings spinning inside the housing (due to not enough preload). $1700 later and I had my car back

Was alot of fun out there again at the Springs over the Easter break.
We had great weather, dueling chainsaws, a fire broke out, busted diffs and axles and also beer o'clock hill 3 days in a row.
Then my waeco broke down, but the beer kept cold.

                      cheers

Yeah very pleased, but still pissed off the rear broke. I've ordered the parts from the states - $353 delivered (inc new pinion flange). I will be up for a new bearing kit so add another $180 + about 5hrs labour so my guess is around $1000 all up.
