  • Flinders Rangers March 2012

Took off to the Flinders Rangers at the end of March 2012 and WOW. A place that changes from morning to night and through in some amazing sunsets for us to take in.

We stayed in the Wilpena pound itself in the resort grounds, our accommodation was one of two permanent tents they have on site. These were kitted out with a double single bunk set up and a single bunk set up, bar fridge, lighting, table, chairs, covered verandah and were quite good for the time we were there. What was quite amusing when going to our tent were the 7 other Prado 120's, 2 90's and 1 150 we encountered in the grounds.

Our time consisted of walking tracks trying not to step on the brown snake :-( and viewing the rock art of years past, also visiting past settlements of which some are intact and looked after and some that are remnants of what once was.
Driving around to the areas around Wilpena, Blinmen, Hawker and Quorn once again trying not to step on all the emu's and roos with the car and viewing such incredible sights.
Went for a twilight drive, left just before dusk yeah a good idea i said to the other half we will see some stuff now :-) and did we see a lot!!!!! roos of all shapes and sizes and real close to the car on a few occasions, eagles feeding on road kill, the odd emu but the most impressive was the python on the road getting the last bit of warmth from the asphalt even the car got out of the way for this its size was Huge!!!!

Anyways thanks Flinders Rangers & Wilpena for such a great time and all the sites and sounds which pictures cant convey.

Only stayed in the area for 6 days.
Plenty of great walks to be done that carter for all levels of fitness. Some great drives too. One of the best drives was through the Bunyeroo Gorge & Brachina Gorge. They're not a full on 4wd track but they have some rocky bits and some water to have a bit of a splash through and get those tyres wet. Kids will love the abundance of roos and emus. Photo's aplenty. The area is worth the trip...
