Looking for any opinions on viability of taking this track through to Tarcoola. We are meeting up with some SA friends in mid June and I was thinking about running along the track from Ceduna. Will be just me and the missus in the Prado with camper trailer. Thanks for any input.

I haven't done it myself but i know a few that have towing trailers, including a guy who took a jayco along it. You shouldn't have to many dramas Bushy! Tyre pressures blah blah blah, you know the drill.

I did this about a fortnight ago in the man's 80 series (couldn't bring myself to go 5 days in my brand new 6 week old prado with no showers!). We did both the Lois Rocks and Yellabinna rocks side tracks. The main track was pretty torn up compared to when we went through last year, but we were two weeks after Easter so I'm guessing there was quite a few people out there - The side tracks were fine though.
I wouldn't be too concerned about taking the trailer - I would have been comfortable taking one through there, but would just need to take it a bit slower. There isn't anything overly difficult, just lots of sand!
The only thing to keep in mind is the road out from Tarcoola to Glendambo can get a bit interesting after rain - or worse - closed!

My mate from Adelaide will be coming in from Glendambo to Tarcoola before I get to the track. Looking at the photos in other posts the terrain looks like a lot of our own Great Victoria Desert country. I just did 1200km through that last weekend with my trailer and no dramas with tyres aired down. Thanks for your info.Dave

We did the track with friends, starting from Ceduna and ending up at Glendambo at Christmas, in a 150 and 120 series Prado and had no problems at all (except the heat!!). The side tracks had stretches of fairly soft sand but I wouldn't consider it a problem. We didn't rush the trip by any means and easily drove it within the day (had planned to camp at Mt Finke the night but was too hot, so headed on).Originally posted by Bushbasher View PostLooking for any opinions on viability of taking this track through to Tarcoola. I'm not sure whether the pub at Kingoonya has re-opened since we passed through but it was closed late last year due to a bereavement. From memory there wasn't much at Tarcoola either - i.e. NO FUEL or supplies. The first fuel after Ceduna is at Glendambo.

We're probably going to run through from Eucla to Ceduna then up the track until nightfall and then finish the remainder of the track the next day to RV with our friends at Tarcoola.Dave

Goog's Track completed with camper trailer attached. One dune tested me a bit and took 3 attempts to climb. Made the lake at about 4pm after reaching Ceduna about midday. Got through to Tarcoola by about 2pm next day. Not a soul out there at all. Tyres down to 20psi to soften out the corrugations.Dave

Camping permits cost 7 dollars per night available in Ceduna department of environment and conservation. Access is free, camping overnight is not. Firewood is available just before you descend into the Googs Lake casmpsite. Tyres down to 20 psi at the entry gate. Speed limit through the park is 40km/hr - you'll be lucky to exceed that. Only one dune gave us any trouble, but the left track was the easiest option with just the right amount of right boot. Northern end has a new detour which brings you out onto the transline (railway). Did most of the track in 3rd gear (auto). Averaged 29l/100km over the track. A couple of dunes have some pretty big dips after the top causing the car to bounce and buck so beware and backoff at the crest of the dunes. Camper trailer got through ok.Dave

Sand dunes, under 40km/hr, towing a camper trailer, I would have run 16psi. Doesn't sound like a big difference but that few extra PSI makes a big difference.Originally posted by Bushbasher View PostTyres down to 20 psi at the entry gate.
