I did the Simmo last year, in fact one of the first group of vehicles to cross after they opened (due to Eyre Creek being very high).

We had a dry trip, but as the sand was very soft it was extremly slow going.....we took 5 days and had 4 night stops.

For me the biggest single mod that would help would be a lift, my 150 (with a 2 inch lift) went overthe dunes pretty easily...we had a bog standard 120 and a bog standard 200 cruiser with us as well, they both struggled and got bogged a number of times.

I must say I am pleased we didn't cop the rain as I can just imagine what those salt lakes would have been like when wet.....by the way we had to do a fairly large detour around Lake Poepell as it was very boggy in the middle, by the looks of that photo you may have charged straight across (or was that just an attempt to cross further down the bypass??)

Off to the OTT in about 3 weeks, got all the camp gear out at the weekend and checked / cleaned everything....can't wait...exciting times ahead!!
150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s. Now towing a semi offroad Lotus Freelander 18.6 Van, with all the bells and whistles.
