    Thanks Steve,

I know the feeling, we usually end up tired, dirty, wet and adding up the $$
..but back in the Stockyard all is good with a Stocky Burger. Mmm.

I'm thinking more of an easy play and look around, St Gwinear, Dam wall and a bit of play in the Mud.
People will need to decide on if it is worth the drive up for this activity.

Where do you usually stay? Rawson?, Walhalla? or other?

    Bernie.

We get a cabin in the Rawson area, but for dinner we go to Walhalla (the first small pub on the way in from the south). Dinner at the Rawson caravan park is good but it is only open some of the time and never go the the Erica pub for dinner, the food is bad and expensive.

There are a couple of areas in Rawson with cheap cabins.

        Hi Guy's,

would have loved to have joined in this one.
Saturdays are not good for me and that weekend we get the hail damage repaired on the car.
Used to love playing in the snow around Licola in the Lada many moons ago.
Look forward to the trip report. Have a good one.

          Hi all,

I would love to have come along too, but committed that weekend unfortunately, heading down near Briagalong. I will keep my eyes open for the next trip (or try to get one orgsanised myself...). Have a good trip.

          Cheers

This is what I am thinking, at this stage I am cautious of the following.

                1. Time for a one day trip
                2. Weather is rain, rain, rain.

So Based on this I am planning on staying out trouble, so that means nothing difficult more of a good look around with lots of photo ops, bit of snow fun and a chance to have a play in some mud + maybe a couple of "off the side" challenges for people if they want. So more of a "Family" orientated trip.

                Plan of Attack time pending:

                1. Head off from RAWSON STOCKYARD BAR (around back in big dirt parking area). ~9:30am

                2. Play around in the tracks (criss Cross each other) directly behind rawson, if it is muddy they will be fun but nothing to challanging.

2.1 Eventually "Old Depot Track" to Walhalla Road
2.2 Although there are only a couple of tracks, they will be muddy (but short and not steep) but it will be easy to put yourself in a "bad" position to test out the traction control / DAC if you like...

                3. Up Walhalla Road to Walhalla for a look through town, lots of options here for family we can decide on how much time you want to spend.

3.1 There is a mine tour but a bit long for this trip
3.2 Walhalla Train ride (awesome) but a bit long for this trip (http://www.walhallarail.com/) would highly recommend this for anyone..
3.3 Great history in this town.
3.4 There is pub!! but do we drink before noon?

                4. Head passed Walhalla on Walhalla Road until we reach Thompson Valley Road.

4.1 Good Photo Op's on this road and even a couple of 4wd challanges off the side of the road that people can have a play. Plus there is a good spot where you can actually take the vehicles down into the river for Photo Op!!

                5. Thompson Dam Back track on Thompson Valley Road to the Thompson Dam for a look around / photo's.

                6. Snow - Continue down Thompson Valley Road to then turn off and head up to St Gwinear for some Snow (There is a VERY good chance of snow here). More Photo's. and play in the snow, bring your toboggan boards if you've got them.

                7. Dinner Option - From here people can decide if they want to come back to RAWSON STOCKYARD BAR for dinner and drink (6pm start)

This will be a BIG day if you are only travelling up for only the day, it takes ~2 - 2.75 hours to get there (2hours for us from Lyndhurst).

So if you are bringing kids (I will have two) you will need to think about it carefully, if you stay for dinner you are looking at heading home @ ~7:30-8pm. The food is GREAT at "the Stocky"

This will not be a full on 4wding trip but more of a family day / scouting trip for other trip's down the track..... So keep that in mind or you may be disappointed.

Let me know what you all think and I will plot it on a map and upload it.

                Bernie.

Hey guys, I might be able to make it that weekend if that's okay? Easy tracks will suit me because I haven't had my car long enough to get much done. All the goodies are in the coming months.
Sounds like a good trip though

                                Hi All,

At this stage from this thread it is as follows

                                1. Berniebgf- Bernie - Heading up Firday Night and staying the weekend.
                                2. Callan52 - Johno - Heading up Saturday for the Day
                                3. JGill - J Gill - TBC

I have started another thread....official one.

Weather is interesting at this stage, but we still have a week to go. I know St Gwinear has allot of snow and have been informed there (this year) is no charge for access to the mountain. (Was previously ~$5.00 a car).

If Anyone else would like to tag along, simply post on this thread and Join in.

All, I will post some instructions on how to get there during next week.

Johno., you are lucky being in Berwick....you are right near the Freeway to head straight out to Moe.

I will be taking the following.

                                1. Max Trax
                                2. Recovery Gear (Multiple straps, Snatch Blocks...Got the winch and so on....but we won't need it).
                                3. Chain Saw
                                4. Digital maps on the Laptop and smart phone....

                                Talk through the weekend.
