  • SE Qld - Mount Mee - July 30th

The plan was for a day trip up to Mount Mee and then cut across to the glasshouse on Sunday, but unfortunately several of the other Prado’s could not make it, so we were solo for the day. Instead we turned it into a relaxed family trip. It was the perfect opportunity to take our little 18week old baby for his first 4wd trip!

I spoke to the head ranger the other day (thanks for the heads up Hazza) who was keen for a chat and indeed all the tracks were opened up this weekend after the recent rain. So we headed up to Dayboro , then went in via McKenzie St, Laceys Creek Rd, then right onto Mount Pleasant Rd, then finally Mount Brisbane road and your there. This drops you in below the Gantry and you can work your way through the southern tracks and then on to A-Break and the western escarpment and finally the northern tracks.

The map on Page 10. http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/parks/dag...itor-guide.pdf
All the tracks were in very good condition and the ruts & washouts just recently filled.

My boys loved A- break, laughing all the way up. I think they were the ones disappointed that we were not up to the sills in mud though!

AJ's new sliders fitted. I tried to scratch them AJ.....

Then a stop for a relaxing lunch at the Somerset lookout . Was a magical view today, clear as far as the eye could see. I stiched together a few shots for a wide screen panorama below

Its official, bubs loved the trip and he just wanted to sit and listen to the birds and enjoy the fresh air.

After doing the western escarpment and northern trials it was off to Rocky Hole

Then off home, What a great relaxing family day out.

      Cheers

Nice day out by the looks....If my family wasn't sick with the winter cold, it would have been the perfect thing to do on this perfectly fine day.....

I gather this place now is more just a 2WD site seeing drive with all harder tracks now gated off ??

          Hi Rob,
All the harder (easy for a prado ;-)) tracks were re-opened on weekend. A- Break, Jacky Creek, The hanger etc.
Even though they say otherwise, you could easily take a 2WD on many of the green tracks at the moment.

          Cheers

Cool... might be worth brushing the cobwebs off the little zook for a bit of a midweek explore again

A few years ago when all the side tracks were still open there were a whole maze of them just a kilometer or two from Neurum Creek. There were some seriously steep ones and some scary cambered angle steep ones too. I was probably the most petrified I'd been on any 4wding expedition to date on those tracks. We had two cars and spent from noon until dusk out there. When we went back a little bit before the floods I was so dissapointed that the side tracks had been closed off. Closed off so well we couldn't even locate where they used to be. There were also great tracks on the floor of the forest near where the proposed power station site is that used to be open. There were several creek crossings in there, good rutted tracks where you had to choose your line carely and rock crawling as well. These were areas where no soft roader could go without getting into trouble. All gone now.

                  Robert,

Great to see the rangers could assist you and you enjoyed the place I certainly did and will venture there again. My kids keep asking if they can go back to A Break and have another go lol

Funny thing looking at your truck other than the racks it looks identical to mine. Even have the same tyres. You mentioned rock sliders, where did you get yours I would love to get a set?

Brett the problem with many of the side tracks is they were illegally pushed through the bush, hence why the rangers blocked them off ie diff break hill
