  • SEQ... Mt Mee Sat 4th (This weekend)

    Sat. 4th Aug

Start: 8am at the Dayboro Bakery for a departure soon after.
    Finish: Sometime around mid day.
I'll only have a handheld UHF so ch:16 but no guarantees

Quick run through Mt Mee to see what the state of the place is and also put my dirt under the tyres of my new 120.

I have been told by the missus that I need to make sure the new cars working properly and wont break off road before the statutory warranty runs out... so, that only leaves this weekend.

Mt Mee is close by and according to Derm... as of the 27th July there doesn't seem to be many track closures. (does anyone know what the Audax look refers to?

Will be an early start (9am depart Dayboro 'ish) as the missus and kids are staying with Poppa (G'pa) for a couple of days.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

I don't think the 4wd system will get much of a workout up there at Mt Mee now..... u mainly need a high clearance car to get around up there now...

Yeah, I've been told it's quite sedate now...
Have the top end tracks (the new ones they opened last year) been effected by all the grading? Atleast there was a little hill climb up there that I could get a feel for the gearing etc of the 120

I was there a couple of weekends back and most of the tracks are heavily graded, however there are still a few steep hills. Try some of the side tracks near the Somerset dam lookout track as there was still a bit of water and mud around to play in. It's a good drive for the family as there is no chance of getting stuck or damage.
        Cheers, Matt

This little trip is just meant as a shake down of the new car, nothing OTT.
I've been to mt mee dozens of times but it sounds like its been 're-designed' for the two wheel drive brigade since the floods

Trev... it'll either be Mt Mee in the morning or Ormeau in the arvo with LFaR... if I go to Mt Mee I'll see if I can get a trip report up for you.
                Cheers, Leon

Sounds like one will be a bit more sedate than the other! No stress with a trip report, have fun.
I can only get up Sunday morning but from what I've read it's pretty much fully opened, and if not challenging it will be good to spend a bit of time off the bitumen.

OK, my studio colleague is going to join me at Mt Mee tomorrow morning... if nothing else I can score some brownie points by bringing an apple turnover back from the Dayboro bakery for my wife

8am at the Bakery if any last minute takers are out there...
                    Cheers, Leon

Managed to get some dirt under the tyres and get a feel for how the D4D engine handles compared to the petrol 90 series... chalk and cheese!!!

Anyway, Mt Mee is open as far as all the usual tracks go.

A break is open and is graded but still needs low range rather than riding the brakes all the way down it...
Diana's Bath Rd is open as far as I can see... didn't go far down it.
Jacky creek rd is gated, logged and locked.
                        Byron Creek rd is open
The Hanger is gated and locked.

Sadly, all the usual play tracks around A break and the southern trails are all bollarded or gated

Range Rd Forest Drive, Peggs Rd and Chambers Rd are all open.

Western Escarpment Forest Drive is open all the way and the tracks just off the north side of the western Escarpment are all open except for one section towards the southeastern corner but that can be bypassed via a later entry point off the western Escarpment.

As far as challenges... there aren't any that we found today but the tracks were all good fun (albeit quite dusty again) and the tracks just north of the Western Escarpment were the most fun with plenty of steep assents and descents, a couple of mud puddles and some chopped up tracks to keep the 2wd brigade out.
                        Cheers, Leon

Yes we also found the tracks to be rather easy. Has a good time with the kids at the River swimming hole. Would be good to join up with some of you next time, as you seem to know the area better than I do.
                          Cheers.

We were up there yesterday as well. Diana's bath rd was open but there is some sort of Power Station slated to built at the end so is a dead end - the drive in was fairly mild and not worth the diversion next time.
This was the first time I had driven Mt Mee and will look to spend more time around the Western Escarpment tracks as we had to head off early.
It was very dusty and hopefully next time I head up will be after a bit of rain.
