  • Fraser trip

I have recently returned from a 5 day trip to Fraser. As it was my first time up there I read up on many posts in this forum about the island. Thanks for the info. This is a great site.
One of the issues that was raised many times reading the threads, were the tour bus's. It didn't take me long to be introduced to them.
We arrived at our accomadation a bit early for check in ( stayed at the beach houses at Eurong 2nd valley ) so decided to have a look around the Eurong village.
Going up a small hill behind Eurong village, I was on the right of the track to avoid the lifted timber of the boarding. Murphy's law kicked in a tour bus came the other way quite quickly.
I pulled the car over the left in time, however the reat left tyre struck the raised boarding and either a bolt or the timber itself pierced the sidewall.
All part of the adventure to change the tyre, but I quickly realise that that bus wasnt stopping in a hurry.

Other than that it was a great trip and another will be planned soon.
Again thanks for all the info on this site.

    Cheers

Great to hear that you enjoyed the island. I think that it is a very special place and worth any hassle you may have at the time.

Where did you visit? Come on Bill more info and pics when available!

Your trouble with the lifted boards was a shame. When I was there last year you could drive up the boards and get more traction.

i got back from fraser about 3 weeks ago, thats my 3rd time back there, and the tour buses dont move for anyone, we stayed at kingfisher 4 6 nights and had a ball. the best thing you can do is just let them run their race, im plannin my next trip already and this time im going to do it my way, the only way (campin). mind you some creature comforts aren,t bad, but its good to get back to ya roots every now and then
had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

Yep Fraser is a beut spot. We have been doing an annual trip for the last 10 years and have only missed a couple of years.

The tour buses have gotten worse but the majority of drivers aren't too bad when you get to know them but they have to put up with idiots who don't know how to drive a 4WD and won't take any helpful advice on how to drive or get unstuck so in the end they get the shits.

Have to admit on my last trip (August 2006) we came across one bloke bogged on the entrance to one of the inland tracks in a rental but when i walked over to offer advice he didn't want any help. Fine, i sat back with a stubby with the missus and waited along with a couple of others. 5 minutes and a domestic later his wife came over and asked could we help, no dramas we said and went over while 1 of the others got a snatch ready but when i got over i spotted the little stubby lever in 4H and then checked the hubs and sure enough they weren't locked in.

Anyone can make mistakes and if you don't know its real easy in a 4by as most of us know ,but what shitted me off was when we talked the wife through the problem and what to do so SHE could drive out herself but he didn't want to know and in fact refused to talk to any of the peopel there some of us offering a beer and a yarn.

I would like to say that it is an isolated instance but i hear more and more stories like this so i can understand why the operators on the island put the bus in gear, point her in the right direction and stomp on it.

Still a bloody nice spot to go even with mobile reception nowadays.
