  • 4WD Action... Double Island run. 11.11.2007

I joined wengnuts and the rest of the guys from the 4WD Action forum on a day run on Sunday.
We met at the BP Caboolture at 8:30am and departed soon after.
First point of call was the Tewantin ferry, then aired down and hit the beach (at almost high tide I might add  ) for the run up to Rainbow Beach.
Stopped at the usual spots (other than the pauses along the high tide mark waiting for the sea water to stop lapping at the wheels  )

First stop was Red Canyon where we had our first line up shot...

A few people took the opportunity to get wet in the ocean... I had a wander through Red Canyon which is looking more like a Red Gorge these days after all the rain over the last few months.

We then headed further up the beach and finally made contact with the guys from Maroochydore who had set up camp at Freshwater Creek for a bit of lunch.

We had a quick chat but they were settling in and we had planned on lunch at the Rainbow Beach Surf Club so with Kel leading the charge for that steak and prawns we were off again and this time along the Freshwater Track which now has the new section open.

The new section is a lot safer with-out all the blind, momentum requiring corners that the old section had although it's a lot rougher. The surface they have used is already corrugated quite badly but with a bit of speed smooths out OK.

Steaks, prawns, schnitzels, chips... a few refreshing ales and an hour or so later we decided to check out Inskip Point before low tide and then the run home.

We managed to get the entire way around the point entering back off the beach through a couple of camp sites on the west side of the the point.

Lined up the 4bys and had another swim looking across to Fraser Island.

A quick snap of the new shoes on the Prado

The way home was supposed to be via the rocks at Rainbow and then the Leisha track but we were advised against it by some locals... which was good because I was hoping to try my new Cooper ST's out on some inland tracks.

4 of us decided against the beach run home and chose to head back to Brissie via the Cooloola Way. We were a bit worried about how slippery it would be after the rain but it was dry as... even the areas of clay were dry and uneventful.

The only eventful thing on the way back...(apart from the corrugations shaking Kel's poor Delica to bits) was a play in the Noosa River to wash some of the salt off the cars.

Don't know how to embed a vid so here's a link to one... should open in Quicktime or something similar. (it's off my phone... so not the best quality ops: )

The Cooloola Way spat us out just outside Pomona where we aired up, had a coffee and a chat then we hit the road again for the trip back to Brisvegas.

Traffic was stop start on the way home so Ben (Pajero) took us the back way through Caboolture and then I had the joy of the Gateway Motorway at it's finest... 30mins to get from the Deagon Deviation to the Boondall Wetlands, not more than a couple of klm's

Got home just before 8pm, so with a 7am departure in the morning made for along day but a very enjoyable one.

Thanks Kel for the heads up on this trip... it was good to catch up again and put some faces to names from the other forums.
    Cheers, Leon

Good report - Sounds like a fun day - I had intended on joining but my wife's father passed away on Friday so any plans were immediately canned as you can imagine.

Hope to get out the next time around and let my Prado make some new friends

Sorry to hear about your FIL spender

It was a good day and the rain probably made it that bit more pleasant with the bite taken out of the sun...

Next time should be the 2nd Dec  ... Hutch and I are trying to get some Prado Pointers out for a day run.
      Cheers, Leon

Filled up last night and the first tank with the Coopers on, as well as a 'close to high tide' beach run returned 14.9ltrs/100klm. I'm happy with that
