Hey Gumboot, thanks for the wrteup. I'm keen to make that trip too. I'm curious though, you said to take your own sandboards. Did you borrow them from the resort or did you make your own?

If you do the sand tobogganing through the resort (You pay for) they provide you a board.
If you just drive out there youself and do it (free), you have to bring you own board.
The best material to use is piece of masonite wood which is slick and shiny on one side usually no wider than the average persons body. Wax your board with wax (candle wax works fine), push down firmly and wax in a vertical pattern. You either lay on the board face down or sit on it, pull up the front of the board up so its does not dig into the sand and slide down the dune.
Cheers

We bought ours on the MiCat, from the canteen area. I think they charged about $6 per board and that included the wax.Originally posted by talk2tiny View PostHey Gumboot, thanks for the wrteup. Loads of fun, and if you get the technique right, you will be travelling at seriously fast speeds!

Thanks guys. I think I'd rather drive out there myself but I like the idea of buying them on the ferry. Sounds much easier than making my own. I think the kids would have a ball with it. I reckon one walk up the hill would be enough to send me to the car to read a book while the kids wear themselves out though. Thanks for the tips.Originally posted by LiveFreeAndRoam View PostWe bought ours on the MiCat, from the canteen area. I think they charged about $6 per board and that included the wax.

gumboot: Robert,
Back from our w/e on Moreton Island and had a great time with all the family.
Drove up the western beach on Friday and tried to avoid a group of 15 cars who all work for an electrician company. One bloke had his Mitch Outlander with low profile tyres and a Landcruiser in the group had to pull him through all the dry sand so they didn't bother to disconnect the snatch strap.
Saturday we drove across to the eastern beach, up to the lighthouse and down to about halfway to Kooringal. The middle tracks were quite dry and deep but had no real problem running on 16psi. Didn't even unpack the Maxtrax off the roof.
Lots of cars over there and I think the resort might have been totally full as lots of weddings going on and the car park at the end of the villas was totally full and cars parked in the extra park near the private houses.
Great place to stay and beachfront was popular as usual.[color=#fa0c23][b]

Hi Brian,
Sounds like a great trip as well. The villa deck is brilliant to kick back with a cold beer on at the end of the day.
I am itching to get back over there.
Cheers

BTW I just saw that the Amity trader is starting back up 7th December to Moreton. Only friday - Sunday by the looks

I thought maybe some competition will bring the MiCat prices down. But looks like it will be $250 return...ouch
Cheers

Mike,
There are toilets in some of the campgrounds. See here for a map of them
