I'll be leaving Sydney on the morning of the 26th and heading through bathurst (just because I've never been there before and want to have a look) and picking the group up in Loxton on the night of the 27th. We'll stop somewhere in the middle but not sure where yet. Happy to meet up with any non-victorians who are heading the same way on the way out of Sydney.

            • Hi All,

              1) Is there a planned Route across the Simpson at this stage? I know it could change, depending on conditions.

              2) Do we need to book Campground space at Leigh Creek, William Creek, Mt Dare and Birdsville, since we are a Group?

              3) What Options are there for those who Don't want to Stay at Birdsville for the Racers?

              Please Advise

Dad and I will be in tents. We got some good quick erect ones from BCF when the 4x4 show was on.

                  Stuart
1.Stuart as yet nothing planed 100% was not planning on just doing the French Line as long as we end up Down at the Lone Gum Tree . Reaserching Simpson desert Maps people may wish to see some Wells. Open To suggestions
We just have to see what the tracks are like , Weather, so we can all have enough fuel

2.Was going to call These Places but at this stage wouldn't have a clue what the final group will be . My understanding is you cant book Birdsville caravan, if we didnt go in there down the river somewhere.

3Don't you wish to be at Birdsville or surrounding area . I guess if you didn't want to stay there you travel further on the route .

Stuart you taking your trailer? No one is going to be left stranded for a breakdown or such but for getting bogged ( maybe not ) are you going to be ok with recovering yourself if you had to . Just think of what you would need if you were by yourself. I have no drama with people taking trailers as long as they have the gear and be ok with digging themselves out . We all might be digging our cars out .

Everyone doesn't have to have maxtrax , treads.
But have your own recovery gear and i would hope people who have trailers a winch also and be confident on how to reverse .

I will make phone calls soon .
Permits . Buy before http://forms.bizgate.sa.gov.au/deh/p...ses/desert.htm or get them at Mt dare .
Bore track is $10 if its closed we will go another way down to Camerons Corner.

Bring it on time for another Road Trip .

                  • I think if we can get permits at mt dare, then we can do it there as a group?
That's what I'm thinking. keep it simple.
Jeez a few days go, it was 4 months away, well it seemed, now close enuff to 3 months.

Apparently if you order them online they send you out the pass and the desert parks handbook. Is there anything interesting in the book? If so, I wouldn't mind ordering early so I could have a read beforehand.

there are a few good things in the pack, but i read it all at Mt Dare when i got mine from there.
Denis Bartell was camping at Mt Dare the night we were there and got a shit load of info from him that night while we partied on, if you are a desert walker you have good info.

                        • Hi all - is this still open to add-ons?
I would like to register interest. Would be myself and my 7Yr old Son for sure and possibly my 10Yr old daughter. Would be swagging it so no trailer.

I have all the minimum requirements except the lift - this trip is the stimulus package for the suspension upgrade (assuming it's open for additional parties)

                            • I have been thinking about a run to the races from Brisbane this year. Unfortunately I own't have time to meet up at Mt Dare and come back through the Simpson, but I was wondering if there was anyone else thinking about leaving Brisbane around the 2nd and heading out to Birdsville and was looking for another vehicle (or possibly 2) to join a party for the trip out and back with maybe a stop-off at Big Red or perhaps joining up with the other folks for a run to Innaminka and Cameron Corner.

Love to hear if any other Brisbane folks are interested.

                              • Was talking to Exniss ( Mark ) today about what route we should take on the Simpson . We think it would be good to do the route which is on Exploroz 636.6km From Mt Dare to Birdsville and does a few different tracks.

OldGreyGuy maybe depending on how long you took to get to Birdsville you could meet us out near Eyre Creek . Plan to be in Birdsville on the Thursday before the races and if everything was going to plan Around Eyre Creek could be the last night . If you didn't get out there to meet us coming in it wouldn't be to hard to take a drive out there with you .
