The chance of me getting away solo anymore Craig is pretty rare. The mere mention of a 4wding trip has the boys running for the passenger seat nowadays ....

Great trip, did the Cape this year...went up through Lakefield and stayed at Kalpowar, I'd certainly suggest that (compared to Battlecamp Road-Laura). Love to join you but doing the CSR in 2013 and then after three big years (Simmo last year) my bank account is telling me that I need to stop hitting it so hard!!

I am however sure you'll have a ball.
150 Silver Diesel GXL Auto with ECB Bullbar, Toyota Factory towbar, Black Widow Drawer system with Fridge slide and cargo barrier, GME UHF 3340 Radio, Waeco 50 Litre Fridge, Rhino Racks and Rhino Basket, ARB Awning, IPF XS Spotties, ABR Sidewinder Dual Battery system,Airtec Snorkel, Bilstien Shockies, King Springs, Poly Airbags and BFG A/T''s. Now towing a semi offroad Lotus Freelander 18.6 Van, with all the bells and whistles.

Pencil me in. I've always intended to go to the cape one day so this'd be a great way to do it. I'll have to take my oldest out of school to do it though. It doesn't overly concern me but I'll get less nagging from my better half if it overlaps with school holidays at least partially. I've never been though so if that means it would be too busy I'm willing to put up with a little extra nagging.

It's hard as not all school holidays correspond and depending on where people come from you just need that little bit extra time .
Last time I went up there pulled my son out of school before the school holidays started . I didn't have a problem with it but my ex on the other hand mmmmm.

Well for my purposes, the qld school hols would be my preference but only if it makes no difference. I'm sure he'll get more benefit out of the trip than 3 weeks of spelling bees and colouring in.

Ok, things have changed a little for us and now 2014 seems more likely for us anyway. So for the moment we are also keen.
                    Can't we just keep travelling?

                            I am definitely keen as..

I've been wanting to do this trip for a while, but I don't want to do it on my own for 2 reasons,
1 - Id like to go with someone who has done it before and knows the good places to see
2 - More than 1 vehicle is good for support.

Going with a larger group would be even better. At this stage I'm not 100% convinced that I will do the Old Telegraph Track as I,m not sure I want to risk damaging my car, but there is always the option of taking the optional (soft) road

Either way, I'm really looking forward to the experience.

                            Cheers,

Jeff don't panic to much about the tele track. I would rather do that than put up with the rough main road ( track).
I have felt more worried about damaging my car around some of the tracks around Melbourne and the high country .
Don't know if you have seen some of my youtube videos of the cape it wasn't that hard .

Check out this video on YouTube:

                              http://youtu.be/9AHEN9-mtlQ

No one on this trip has to do anything that they don't wont to.
The challenger you see is my fathers car all stock except for some all terrains, snorkel he loved the tele track

My biggest concern is the water crossings. I enjoy 4wding, and have been driving 4wds for over 30 years, but I would be devistated if I drowned my car on one of the deep creek crossings. The rough tracks and slow going is absolutely fine, but I would have a mutiny on my hands if I attempted a deeep water crossing where it was touch and go if I were to make it across. Is there "chicken" tracks around water crossings, or can you even drive back teh way you came, go back on the main track, and then meet up again on the other side (albiet a few days later?) ...dust, dirt, sand, no problems ....but water in the dash and over the seats...no way
