Nth Stradbroke Island Pt 1

We decided that we may as well be at "Straddie" if its raining as be at home so off we went last weekend. The weather turned out to be OK, not fantasic. Sunday we went for a drive starting at Adder Rock camping ground at Pt Lookout



Off up the track that runs from the Amity Pt turnoff south to Tazi Rd near Blue Lake, this used to be a bit of a challenge but is now maintained as a fire break and quite easy now.

From this track you can see the existing Yarraman Sand Mine and the revegetated areas.

Part 2

Down to Main Beach the entry was quite hard and the air down area full so we aired down on the beach.


An interesting photo showing the difference between pressures, the top tread is 36lbs and the bottom is 20lbs,


Found this local looking a bit worse for wear and a bit smelly, about 8mts long.


Then off to Pt Lookout for a Galati overlooking Frenchmans Beach

Part 3

Finally a quick spin down Flinders Beach, the wind was blowing around 25 knots by then and the photo shows the fine sand blowing over the top of the beach.


We didn't go down the Keyholes track as the holes were over bonnet deep again and we were by ourselves.Overall a pleasant drive all up about 3 hours, pack up and then back to the mainland.

Nice one Richo. I always see people doing these snappy weekenders and think to myself that i should be getting out and about more. Next thing i know, 6 months has passed. One day i'll be free of the daily grind.

Looks like a top day. Thanks for sharing the trip report and photos.
The tyre prints in the sand are very telling.
Must be time for a PP Weekend away on Straddie or Fraser....;-)

Mike, Straddie is easy as it is a 45 minute ferry ride from Cleveland, then 15 minutes across the island to Pt Lookout.

Yeah, I used to live at Victoria Point and went to straddie all the time. That was a decade ago. Now I'm married with young kids. Wife and I both work weekends. Haven't been to straddie for two years. Am keen to go back but want to hit Fraser first. Never been there.

Nice report, looks like the usual route I take.
I'm sure you know this but that track is Tripod track (Tripod Lookout).
