  • The Vic High Country from the NSW side

    G'day all,

Starting to get ichy feet again. Planning to go back to the Vic High Country in late May 2013. Went there in May 2012 via Mansfield and had a great time. This time I would like to go from the NSW side and would like some suggestions. If anyone else is planning to be there around the same time, let us know, It would be great to catch up somewhere there.

Mate depending on dates, I could be a starter. I've got to be in Sydney for 6 mths work starting the end of April and plan on taking full advantage to hit high country while I'm there.

        Cheers,
        Dusty

A lot of the tracks close in mid may,
You could try entering the park at Tom groggin, cross the Murray and head in that way. I live in Jindabyne and it a pretty good start to the trip. Head toward Davies plain, limestone creek etc
Unfortunately I'm moving to newcastle in jan next year so won't be able to join you.
          Cheers

              Thanks Phil,
That helps, as I've never been in from this side, always from Vic. I've got about 2 weeks to go play so I will take your suggestion and start from Jindabyne and plot from there.

Not a lot of help but, if your coming in from there, as you head down, I think near benambra, go in at uplands, have a look at the lower tableland it down from Dartmouth, at the start of the mitta, one track in and out, good track any Prado can do. We went there it was nice, even better if you take a rod and a boat if you have one for the roof. Then back out and we followed the main dirt rad to Taylor's crossing, that's a good one, walk it first, stay upstreamish as down gets deep. We had a look round that area early November didn't find any tracks that were too hard. Although some people told us about the steep wombat track, it goes up from the wombat p.o/ hut. ( good camp spot)
It's not that steep just a bit, I think 15 degrees maybe.
The best view was that tableland, it was much warmer to swim there than down the mitta.
That's what I know that far e n/e, not much hehe..... Ohh and good fishing in the mitta, gibbo, cobungra and another little one joins the mitta near anglers rest forgot the name of it.
