I'm up in Kununurra at the moment to do a spot of heli fishing and then suppose to head out to the Keep for a couple of days but it hasn't stopped raining so that's put on hold at the moment. Ivanhoe Crossing is still closed and has been for the last couple of years which is a bit of a bugger but its been a pretty dry wet if that makes sense so this down pour of rain is a welcome relief. Enjoy your time up here

Hi Guys,
We are also heading over that way in just over a month (Still so much to do!!). The plan is to leave Darwin on the 20th May, take three days to drive to Derby via the Great Northern Highway (with multiple stops to keep a five year old entertained!) and then start out on the Gibb on 23rd. We plan to take two weeks to get back to Darwin with the majority of along the Gibb.
Below are some of the websites I have used for research and information:
http://www.kimberleyaustralia.com
- All sorts of info about the Kimberley
http://www.kimberleyaustralia.com/de...kimberley.html
- A great easy-to-read e-book about the Kimberley and the Gibb River Road
http://www.gibbriverroad.net
- Has distances and times for places along the Gibb
http://www.sdwk.wa.gov.au/services/t...ionreport.html
- Shire of Derby/West Kimberley: Road Conditions
http://www.swek.wa.gov.au/about/roadconditions
- Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley: Road Conditions
See you on the Gibb!!

Looks like we might be getting serious about doing a trip in July as well, Pilbara is the hot favourite ATM so would be interested to see your itinerary on the way home, we might cross paths somewhere.

Well talk about a wet Gibb this year! The rain followed us all the way along the road. Pissed down in Broome on the wednesday we got there, main street got turned into a creek. Then rained on us at Imintji, pelted us at Mt Elizabeth Stn overnight which made it real interesting getting 450 people out to the main road again! The Gibb rd up to the Kalumbaru turn off was just as bad with bog holes everywhere! Once past there it was good but then we got 100mm of rain overnight at Ellenbrae. One guy even woke up to find himself being washed down the slope in his swag! Finally got some fine weather at Home Valley. We were very lucky to keep ahead of the road closures.
One of the volunteers in a Prado had to be towed all the way from Mt Barnett to ElQuestro after his starter motor crapped itself! What a trip.
We will be turning around tomorrow and going back along it to check out some of the places we haven't seen yet. Should have dried up by now. Be a few ruts though I reckon! Can't we just keep travelling?
