Yeh We called in there in Jan 2010. I think it was only the caretaker there at that time of the year. During the dry I could imagine how packed it would get. Its a beautiful spot.Originally posted by dreamon View PostYou've been there then
We drove up in a mad dash just before Xmas 2009 from Karratha where we were camped straight through to Broome when we heard that cyclone Lawrence had moved away from the coast so as it moved back out to sea we drove up. It then came in behind us the next day. The wind and rain was so strong that it water blasted the paint off the front of my newly built camper. We used 170L of fuel getting from South Hedland to Broome which shows how strong the headwind was.
We stayed that trip for a few nights in Palm Grove but in onsite accom untill we could get into the house we had booked for Xmas.

We'll be up there a few days earlier than you Craig, looked at staying at Palm grove and Tarangau, decided against Tarangau because all the sites are crushed shell not grassed, a guy I work with stays there about 3 times a year though and loves it. The main thing that stopped us was no pool (got a 2 year old who loves to swim). Cable beach is huge and if it was going to be full I wouldn't have booked there because I think it would be too busy. Was a toss of the coin really to stay at Cable beach.
Enjoy your trip, I know I will.2011 White GXL Diesel, ARB Sahara bar, Lightforce Genesis, ARB under bonnet compressor, Dual Batteries, GME TX3540

Cheers for the feedback guys. We have booked a patch of turf at Cable Beach C/Van park. Was the cheapest out of them all, and we still haven't heard back from Roebuck Bay after two emails and multiple phone messages, guess they are full!!!. The village is by far the most expensive.120 V6, with a little bit of this n that

It's strange everyone seems to have had dramas booking or making contact. I emailed Cable beach, Tarangau, Palm Grove and Kooljamin at Cape Leveque. They all got straight back to me and all were willing to take bookings. Strange.2011 White GXL Diesel, ARB Sahara bar, Lightforce Genesis, ARB under bonnet compressor, Dual Batteries, GME TX3540

I think a lot of the issues around booking and crowds are really just season dependent. We phoned in advance in April for early June last year and was told that there would be no problem with vacancies at that time of the year, so we didn't book. We just left it until we arrived and didn't have an issue. However, we did book a week in advance for Kooljamin at Cape Leveque and for Middle Lagoon on the way back. For Broome, our experience would suggest that if you are in the area before mid-June, then you will probably be ok. This was the same for Barn Hill, Port Smith and Warroora Station on the way south.2004 Silver GX 4spd auto 3.0 T/D, Safari snorkel, dual batteries (Piranha), Bilstein suspension upgrade & lift, ARB winch-bar, diff breathers, GXL steel wheels and 245X17 Cooper AT3s, Autosafe cargo barrier, Kulkyne side awning & Oztent, Toyota 3 bar rack, Maxtrax, other ARB & TJM recovery gear, Engel and Waeco fridges, Towpro, GME uhf, AMTS recovery points, Tvan

That would be the Broome Caravan Park. We stayed there last year and found it to be good. Brand new huge resort style pool, grassy sites with plenty of shade. Short drive into town or to the beach.Originally posted by chester ver 2.0 View PostI am not sure of the name we stayed at the one next to the speedway just out of town, nice facilities just go into town or to the speedway on race night as it is noisyCan't we just keep travelling?

Or if your real desperate and cant find a place. Grow all your hair out, buy a banjo and some of those rose petal lensed glasses and camp out at Cape Leveque! Free camping there and you may even score the dole while your at it! I think they may even have the forms to fill out when you get to the front entrance.
Seriously though, hope you enjoy your stay. The weather around these parts is beautiful atm.
