Next was some fishing with the boys which they loved.

Later in the day we went down to Champagne pools. It’s a nice walk and the pools are very picturesque but not really little kid friendly. A cracking view but. Saw a few police up there as well in 120 and 150 prados

The view north from champange pools

The boardwalk down to the pool. Take somethng for your feet as some of the rocks are sharp.

Then it was back to base for cold beers and siting in the pool.

Day 4 saw us back to Eli creek with the kids again as they loved it so much. That occupied us all morning…..

On the way back we were driving along the beach then a surreal moment with a tyre rolling down the centre of the beach toward us. Then I could see a land cruiser stopped ahead. The occupants waved us down and then I realised the whole wheel had come clean off while they were driving. Look like the nuts were never tightened up as the driver said it had a bad vibration while driving…..…. A quick ring to the hire company on behalf of the German tourists in between some colour German swearing , had their mechanic coming up with a replacements. Making sure they had plenty of food and water and it was an outgoing tide, we Continued inued on once help was on the way for them.

After lunch we spent some time driving through the inland forest and went to Lake McKenzie.

How’s this for deserted, we were the only 4wd in the carpark at Lake Mackenzie!

Fraser Island has over 100 freshwater lakes. Lake McKenzie is a 'perched' lake, which means it contains only rainwater, no groundwater, is not fed by streams and does not flow to the ocean. The sand and organic matter at the base of the lake form an impervious layer, preventing rainwater from draining away. It has an has an area of 150 hectares and is just over 5 metres in depth. The beach sand of Lake McKenzie is nearly pure silica.

Day 5 we did some more of the scenic inland drives and lakes, and ran over to the western side of the island.

The exit track out of kingfisher was really chopped up with very deep ruts . I am surprised they hadn’t graded this before the Easter influx.

We went to the Sand Bar for lunch next to the pier, This is a day use area with pools and a great place to kick back for a cold beer and lunch. As it was our last day and it was drawing to an end , it was back to the Eastern beach and drive down to hook point to catch the barge home. Police were booking people with mobile speed guns on the main beach. A couple of dingos were waiting down at the barge area. Maybe they were checking out the fresh meat arriving on the island…..

          Packed and ready to go.

A quick 10 minute ride and we were back at inskip point airing up for the 3 hour drive home.

All in all a fantastic family break for us and the kids loved their first taste of Fraser. They were already planning their return holiday on the way home. They have caught the Fraser bug which we are very happy about as it is such a beautiful part of the world.

                Good report and pics, thanks!

I must make a mental note about going to Fraser the week before Easter, impressive the amount of times you found places to yourself.

What was the cost of the accomodation if you don't mind me asking?

                Cheers Andrew

These are pre made with milk and you have to keep them refrigerated. We took 8 bottles up in the fridge and it was fantastic for early morning coffee and a lifersaver... Thanks Mate.
You can get them here http://cleanskincoffeeco.com.au/ in Brisbane.
Gumboot, great report, makes me want to go back with the family real soon. I was over there at the end of February for a boys weekend and the island had taken a bit of a pounding from the storms.

Glad to point you in the direction of the Cleanskin Cold Press Latte, trouble is you'll be like me and have to have them all the time. I find myself dropping in to pick one up but always walk out with a 6 pack.
