Just telling it like it is. Drive through the place, just don't stop for too long or you'll catch something.Dave

Heaps of camels along the Gt Central Road, one herd numbered over 75 and there were 7 herds bewteen Warakurna and Warburton. The road is pretty good ATM with an extension to the bitumen strip west from Warburton and another stretch near the Tjukirlya Road House. A few corrugations from Docker River and some more on the west of the afore mentioned roadhouse but pretty smooth elsewhere. We sat on 100 towing a trailer, tyres at 28psi and no flats. Diesel is around the $2.35 per litre which is not too bad out there at present. There are 4 dogs and 5 cats less out there too!Dave

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

We would have passed somewhere along there. I was out there 14 - 24/4. Did 2500km towing a brand new work trailer. All the lovely white paint on the front has been bead blasted away. No punctures again for my third trip out here so all good. Sorry you missed the wild life, sometimes you have to look hard. We almost ran over a 2 metre king brown and I spotted another 1.5 metre whilst out taking photos. I'll be back up through there in June doing the Sandy Blight to Alice and then Darwin.Dave

My trailer shocks and stone guard broke before we got on the track at Winton so we diverted up the highway, poped out at Tennant Creek and down to Alice Springs where we got it all welded up. Got a puncture on the trailer 15kms from the end of the track at Laverton, changed the tyres no problem and got it repaired at Laverton. The track was in very good condition with only a few corrugated bits as Bushbasher said. I am told the the NT side is only graded about twice a year and we were lucky that it was only done in the last two weeks. The WA side is graded and rolled every couple of weeks so in a lot better condition.
Got to Perth and the trailer looks like it has been shot blasted by the gravel, water tank has a bit of a hole in it and the two water drain taps were smashed to bits. The wiring for the electric brakes was also smashed off by the gravel. I have fixed everything now, except the water tank hole, which I will patch up when I get time.
Do you mind telling us what make the trailer is. Sounds like a fair bit of damage?

Hey Jasen,
Well have to catch up and go for a drive sometime, since I'm a colour coded steel bullbar type of guy, be careful:-)
Are you NOR or SOR? (that means north or south)of the river
A mate of mine bought the same make caravan. Paid $9K for his, spent another $3K replacing stuff, wiring, suspension and Tyres, hitch, and a number of bits and pieces, and he loves it. Less than half of what other brands are and just as good.
I'm all for Aussie made, but at around $10K cheaper, that's a lot of holidays or mods to the car you can afford instead.Geoff

Thinking about doing the Great Central Road from West to East on our return trip from Perth, back home to Tassie later this year (I figure once we have seen the Nullabor one way, there is no point in doing it again, if possible). We are a family of 3 littlies and 2 adults, with just the tent and a well kitted out 120. Coming from Tassie, we aren't used to the "locals" and their habits (too cold down here), so any advice around safe over night stops would be much appreciated. I have read through this thread, and will continue to do so with great interest.2009 White KDJ120R Manual fitted out for family camping and touring - See my Rig Build at http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27887-Smithy-s-Rig-Build
