  • A week in Victoria?

So it looks like I may have got my wish. I'm always complaining to wifey that she never has enough leave for us to go away as much as I would like. Today she came home and told me she has been made redundant (which is actually a good thing considering she was planning to look for a new job). So I may have a window of opportunity to get away for a week with the folks' van and was thinking getting back to nature. The van is not an offroader so happy to centralise in a powered site and do day trips if needed this time around..

I was thinking of crossing over the border to maybe the grampians, but I wonder if anyone else has any other suggestions on any towns/parks/drives between Adelaide and Melb
where we'd might get more value then the grampians? Looking for scenic bush trails and nature walks, but not hard core driving as were solo this time around
It's been a few months since the last time I've locked the centre diff and I'm starting to get withdrawls!

    Hey Jase
The Wife wasn't one of the Holden's top 500 was she?
Mate I think you would be happy with Halls Gap in the Grampians as a tour base. A couple of tracks around the area but need to check on access due to seasonal restrictions.

January 2012 we spent a week based in Warrnambool. Plenty of activities around the district -Museums, Cheese Factory, Great Ocean Road, Ottways Park and Fishing.

    Cheers

There in heaps of areas between Adelaide & Melb,
You could check out the deserts, little or big.
      Or Otways on the coast.
Grampians is good, I've been told there is a few good tracks there for me, but haven't had a chance to check it properly yet. There is some good walking & waterfalls etc. it could be the go
Also Pyrenees have not been there yet, but its on the list.

      Have fun!

Some of the tracks in the grampians are still closed from the fires we had just recently. You would be best to ring and check what's open and what's not.
Mt Eccles (national park) and Mt Napier (state park) are volcanic and south of the grampians. They have some good trails - murphys hut out from Mt Eccles is a great spot for lunch. And climbing Mt Napier is fantastic. The Byaduk Caves are between Mt Napier and Mt Eccles are are brilliant. If you're into caves you could easily waste a whole afternoon there, and the Tumarli.
Cape Bridgewater and the Lower Glenelg National Park area are both good. Nelson too.
Black prado chick liked Killarney Beach when she was there a few years ago, and Port fairy is close by and very pretty.
There are many good 4wd tracks out the back of Hotspur and Digby , much fun to be had there, especially if they've had some rain Annya road, off the Heywood Casterton Rd had a beautiful campground - no power, but it is just fantastic....
I'm going to stop now as I feel I sound like I work for the tourist info bureau (I don't!! )
Enjoy your time, it's a wonderful area.

A couple of our favourite places are Pink Lakes, which you can reach via the Pinnaroo road and then it's an easy drive south to Wyperfeld NP where you can enter via the northern part of the park for a bit of sand track driving through the mallee country to the southern campground. Also and interesting drive in sand again around dry Lake Albacutya.

Hey Troy, no she's way to precious to work at holdens LOL! She was working for the wesfarmers group up until today and now I've got to move quick before she locks something else in!
Thanks for the suggestions, we've both really keen to get down the GOR as well.. I think the last time I traveled down there was back in 1987 when we all packed in the Camira
Otways looks interesting, will loook further into that!

Thanks to Boyce, GTX and #### for the suggestions as well... plenty there to get the juices flowing.
Looks like I'll head out from Adelaide to Halls gap and come back via GOR. I'll have to ring around and see whats available as it's going to coincide with the SA school holidays

I did a loop around South East SA and Vic in Feb/Mar.

                    The highlights for me were:

                    1. Robe - Beachport. Park your van at the lakeside caravan park and drive the 4by along the beack track between Robe and Beachport (and back if you can handle your beloved being scratched to shreds!). It's an awesome track.

                    2. Anglesea Heath: I cam across the following blog and thought I'd check it out:
                    http://www.pradopoint.com/entry.php?...nd-26-Feb-2012
Can't recommend this section highly enough. Great directions and amazing scenery.

Never been to the Grampians, but keen as mustard to get there are some point.

                    Enjoy!
