  • Anyone done the Condamine River Rd lately?

We were contemplating a day trip (first time) out to the Condamine River Rd tomorrow.

Has anyone been out there lately? Any info on the water height on the crossings?

I don't have a snorkel fitted and Prado is standard height, not keen on any over bonnet stuff just yet on the new car

At the levels the graph is showing you'll be fine, the water depth will keep the 2WD's at bay but will be fun for a low-timer. Please take plenty of pics!

Thanks for the link pradogang, very useful.

I'd certainly be interested to know if its open or closed before heading out there.

Queen Mary Falls is the other option as a scenic drive I suppose.

Either way I will take some pics and share.

If anyone can confirm closure please let me know.

          Cheers

I went out there on 16 March, so only a couple of weeks after the last floods. It was the deepest I'd ever seen it, and I actually felt the need to walk a few of the crossings first. I don't have a snorkel, and only one of the crossings turned out to be deep enough that I was a bit worried. I did it from west to east, and the problem crossing was about 3 or 4 from the Boonah end. When I walked it, it was well up my thighs - my shorts were rolled up to my crotch and they still got wet, and I'm 6'1. This one was a bit hairy without a snorkel, and I certainly wouldn't be keen on anything deeper. Actually I was almost going to turn around, but decided to keep going and made it through no dramas. The other good news is my doors didn't leak! Other than the 1 deep crossing the only other hairy bit was a section of very rutted road with a lot of mud, that caused a couple of scrapes underneath.

It's been a good while now since any decent rain, so I'd expect it will be quite a bit lower by now. The floods have certainly made their presence felt, the place was completely different to when I last went through about a year ago. It looks like when they graded the road they shifted a hell of a lot of dirt. Just past the last crossing on the eastern side, I spotted a waterfall up on the cliffs beside us that I've never seen before. My guess is it is a creek that doesn't normally flow, but with all the rain it was now flowing well. Once we got up to Queen Mary Falls, it was flowing better than normal too. It's certainly a beautiful part of the world, and now that there's been no big rain for several weeks, I would expect it would now be quite a bit lower, so would pose no dramas for a standard Prado.

I went there about a month ago.
All the crossings were quite easy, at best about 30-40cm deep.
It is however quite a bit torn up with trees down and some creek crossings have large boulders, but again still quite easy.

The queen mary falls road was closed and you can get through if you tried as there is a large pole gate across the road from the eastern side.

              Cheers,

              Jeff

What a perfect day for a road trip from the Gold Coast!!

Was clear skies as we set off toward Queen Mary Falls, we decided against Condamine this time , it will be there next time

We headed out via Nerang... Canungra... Beaudesert...Boonah..

Found our way to Mount Alford Rd, then into Dwyer Ridges Rd and Carneys Creek Rd.

There was a sign saying the road to QMF was closed but we headed in anyway.
Unfortunately there was a locked gate further up so we turned around and followed Carneys Creek Rd (nice gravel rd) into White Swamp Rd.

Had never headed out that way before and just hoped the detour was taking us the right way.

We ended up at the junction of White Swamp Rd and Head Gate Rd where there was a sign to Queen Mary Falls.
Time to give bub a feed and have a coffe by the roadside.

Then headed up White Swamp Rd and followed Spring Creek Rd to QMF.

Was perfect temperature up there, enjoyed a nice walk and had an enjoyable lunch along with heaps of other day-trippers up there.

We headed west and came back via Legume, Woodenbong and Rathdowney.

I hadn't been on the Legume- Rathdowney stretch before and will never do so again!!

Sealed roads, but my god!! That has to be the worst sealed road I have ever been on!
Off to the doctor tomorrow to get my organs put back in place after being shaken up.

All in alll a very enjoyable day and a perfect day trip from the Gold Coast.

White Swamp Rd is a great scenic drive. Did drive through the Gorge?

Driving through the Gorge takes you across the 14 creek crossings.....

I was up there today too, I went up the same way as you did but I definitely avoided the Legume Woodenbong road from past experience on motorbikes, I went into the Gorge from the western end for about 3 or 4 water crossings just for a look then came back to Brissie on the Cunningham.

Took a mate who has bought a new Pajero for a run along the road today. From the Brisbane Bayside we went down through Beaudesert, Rathdowney, Woodenbong, Legume and Killarney. The road from Woodenbong to Legume is still as bad as described in #8.
The CRR has been graded and is a very smooth run. Water levels are low but you can see from the amount of debris alongside some of the crossings how much water goes through there in a flood.
The road from Queen Mary Falls direct to Boonah has been repaired and is now open.

                              Cheers
