Can I get some info about Mungo National Park? currently going through the website http://www.visitmungo.com.au/

We are planning to visit Renmark (Balloon Fiesta) in the July school holidays and I'd like to head out to Mungo for a visit. The whole trip might be compressed to a 3 day weekend so I'd like to do a bit of planning for it and work out what's feasible.

I'd like to know how long it will take to have a look at the attractions at Mungo so that I can plan where to stay. Also I' like to know about the accommodation options near there too. If it is not too far of a drive, we might base ourselves in Mildura once we're done in Renmark.

We'll be visiting Perry Sandhills too so info for this area would be good too.

    Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have a "B" plan for the weekend. I think I have arranged to go to Mungo on the June long weekend 3 times in the past and its rained every year and the park gets closed, also pack warm clothes as it gets bitterly cold by all accounts. I'll get there one day!

Perry sand hills is good fun for the kids (and the big kids)

Balloon Fiesta, Perry Sandhills and Mungo all from Adelaide in 3 days sounds like a big ask to me.

    Cheers Andrew

      amts,

I went to Mungo National Park last year and we spent the day there in October 2012.

      We also stayed at Mildura.

It will take as long as you want but I thought 1 day was long enough depending on your interests.

The dirt road was just cleaned up. There was heaps of dead kangaroos so be carful.

      Hope this helps.

Make sure you book the Harry Nanya your. Best indigenous tour around. Campsites near the lake are also quite good. Take a day to do the full drive around the back track.

Are you camping? There are two camping sites, the main one near the visitor centre and Belah Camp. If not, then there are the shearer quarters. You need at least one full day to see everything.

There is the Self Guided Drive Tour which is a loop of about 70 kilometres. This takes you up and over the Walls of China. These are quite amazing. There are a couple of small walks, one to the top of the dunes, one through the woodlands and other spots where it is nice to stop and sightsee.

There is also a camping area called Belah Camp. Unfortunately, as the road is a one-way track, you have to go all the way around the 70 kilometres if you want to go to the visitor centre etc. However, it is very nice and would be a good place to stop so long as you plan your trip right. On the way back to the visitor centre (also very good) is Zanci Homestead Ruins.

We also did a guided bush-tucker walk, this was very good and well worth the (small) cost.

Have a look at my web site page on when we visited there a few years back http://www.michaelmcfadyenscuba.info...hp?page_id=577.

I was there about 12month ago, stayed in Mildura and went out there for a day trip. They were working on the road and aside form that, it was pretty good for dirt, while its dry.

Basically the visitor centre, shearing shed etc and self drive can be knocked over in a day. We took our time on the self drive and spotted loads of lizards, monitors, the odd roo and heaps of Emu`s with chicks. Kids really enjoyed it. I would go there again, but not sure that I need to stay overnight , unless I was heading somewhere else from there.

Thank you all for the good info and the links to your blogs. We will stay in Mildura and base ourselves there probably for 2 nights in case the weather isn't too kind on one day.

The Balloon Fiesta was cancelled today due to lack of participants. Might free up some more time for going to Mungo.
