  • Christmas Eve 2007 trip - Newnes to Baal Bone video

    Hello all,

A day trip on Christmas eve to the Newnes Plateau was organised and lead by 120GXV6. Speedcomm and myself (the interloper) made up the rest of the small convoy.

We basically traveled the reverse direction of the Nationwide Meetup held in August 07 with a few extra detours.

The tracks were dry, the sun wasn't too hot and the Prados were again shamed by the mighty Triton!

The Lost City was still in the same spot we left it.....we did however get to drive up the track we missed last time due to the mass of Landrovers that were blocking it last time.

In a moment of lunacy, 120GXV6 let me take over convoy leadership for a short while, until I took few wrong turns....I was then reassigned to the position of "Tail end Triton" again.

I have posted a little video of a hill climb and a little swamp crossing here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l-_qV_rBaM

The hill climb done by 120GXV6 in the video is the climb all the Landies were on back in August.

This was all the footage I took. A friend also has some more footage and plenty of photos of the day, so I will try and add some more to the video when I get a copy from him.

Top stuff Brett .. nice bit of camera work ... and its great to see that Triton (that wants to be a Prado) playing around in the mountains.

Has Matt put lockers in that truck yet ? ... I'd swear he had 3 wheels in the air on that climb

Looks like you boys had a lot of fun ... well done.

    Cheers

      Yeah, top stuff.

That would def have dif locks. was looking at that and noticed at least 2 places mine would have stoped at that speed. Would have just sat there with 2 opposite corner wheels spinning.
I gotta get me some of them.
Either them or a grande with their electrickery.

Been to Newnes, yrs ago, before and after the pub was moved.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Matthew has not yet put his rear locker in the Prado. It is still the standard limited slipper. It just goes to show what some good aftermarket suspension and Cooper STTs at 25psi will do.

I didn't ask him if he used the old handbrake difflock trick on that climb....Matthew spill the beans!

No difflock yet! Only had a couple of near standstill moments with opposite wheels spinning - and no handbrake assistance either.

Thanks for including the footage I took, Brett. It works better to turn the camera on BEFORE trying to video something, rather than when finished!

Great climb Matthew. There's a great number of us mere mortals who would have taken the speedy route
