  • QLD Outback trip Itinery Suggestions

Hi, I'm looking for some suggestions on an itinery for an outback QLD trip. We will be leaving from Newcastle, NSW and looking to spend about 2 weeks towing an on-road caravan. It could be as part of a through trip to Alice Springs and Uluru and beyond or just a stand alone trip. Any suggestions welcome. PS: Hope this is in the correct section. Apologies if not

U can do a search on the Matilda H'wy....Heaps of things to see along the way..... Charleville; Barcaldine; Longreach; Winton; Richmond all have good things to see, but will depend on what you are interested in.... Plenty of Dinosaur stuff for kids, etc. Longreach appears to be the place with the most in and around that area...... Google is your friend

Charleville has the Cosmos Centre which is great for viewing the stars, it's popular so book in advance. Barcaldine has the "Tree of Knowledge" (and possibly the worst ever structure built over it). Longreach has Outback Hall of Fame, QANTAS Museum, Cobb and Co stage ride, Thomson River sunset cruise plus lots more. As Rob said have a look at Google there is heaps to see. Cheers Jim

In August I'm going up to Mt Isa, the Gulf of Carpentaria, Normanton & down to Lawn Hill NP before returning home. So I'll be keen to see some of the suggestions.

I will happily recommend Carisbrooke Station which sits about 80km from Winton. A beautiful property run by some of the most hospitable folk you will ever meet. You can camp or caravan. http://www.carisbrookestation.com.au/
