  • Simpson Desert Geographical Centre July 2013

    Hiya folks,
I have a motorcycle ride lined up for 13th - 17th July, departing Madigan Camp 1 (or thereabouts) cross country to Geosurveys Hill and the Geographical centre of the Simpson Desert (and return). Currently I have no vehicular backup, but it would be nice.

If anyone is going to be in the region for that week (ie taking the same kind of itinerary, the Madigan track or a regular Simpson crossing), I would greatly appreciate if you can PM me your contact details in case I impale myself on a piece of Mulga & need some help. Or just a cold beer (dunno if you've noticed but you can't fit a very big Waeco on a DR650).

    From the last trip:

    Cheers,
    G.

Well, returning alive and still enjoying riding, I call that successful trip.
Turned around 30 minutes into day 2, figuring I wasn't going to get there on available energy reserves; unbogging a DR650 in damp sand is not so easy the third time in 15 minutes. So blasted up to the Madigan track between Camps 5 & 6 for an easy shortcut back to the mighty faithful Prado.

Except you know Roo I'm moving to Melbourne. Literally right now having a posh brekkie in Horsham before the final leg. I've already been told to replace the Parado with a Nissan Leaf whatever offensive piece of tree huggin hippy shite that is. On the bright side a don't have a job (but my gracious Mrs does ) so there's plenty of time for dirt bothering. Be sure to look me up if you're down this way mate.

Nice report mate, just sold my wrf last week and chasing a big DR now, getting out and around in the prado is fun, but doesn,t hold a candle to doing it on a bike. Looking forward to doing a similar trip soon, happy trails.

            Cheers
